Alwood on Bethel can be a really good place to walk in and buy flowers. I like the fact that they are knowledgeable, and make a real effort to teach their staff all about flowers. If you know what you want, and order it for pick up or just walk in off the street you can get a really nice arrangement. They do some really pretty dish gardens that last well with minimal care.
BUT, and it is a big but, they skimp on the formula arrangements. I got suspicious when I ordered a funeral arrangement through a national floral number and it came from Alwood...it looked really skimpy. When I called the national line again, they asked me to count the stems of the different types of flowers. Alwood had shorted me nearly 25% of the flowers and greenery. I talked to them and got what I thought was a really nice apology and an extra arrangement. A year later my mom ordered a nice "welcome baby" arrangement for a friend of mine, and it too was short of flowers and greenery.
They will give you really nice roses for the price, the flowers you get there in person are pretty and fresh...but the phone orders that get delivered are really disappointing. Buyer beware.
