I have stayed at the Renoir and have had out of town guests stay there. It's not a luxury hotel nor a boutique hotel. It's very basic, you get a bed, bathroom, TV, a nightable, and a closet. If you want something fancy this is not the place for you. But is you want a reasonably-priced hotel in the middle of the city, then the Renoir is a great option. It's official address is McAllister but it's right on Market Street, less than 2 blocks away from The Warfield It's convenient to Muni, BART, and Union Square. The area can get sketchy at night, but the hotel itself is safe, in my own experience. There is no room service, as one reviewer noted, but there is a restaurant on site and many eateries nearby. It is an older hotel, but it's pretty well maintained considering, and I'd rate the housekeeping as very good. The Renoir won't impress you or offer you a luxury stay, but it's clean, affordable, and accessible.
