I'd been looking forward to taking my 8 yr. old niece for her first Gray's Papaya on a recent visit to NYC. We were in a car and concerned about finding parking for Eastside location when by accident we stumbled across the Harlem location when driving across town and miraculously a parking space in front! Oh, the disappointment inside!!
They workers were English-challenged and clearly unaware of how to efficiently manage the crowd (there were not that many people, but too many for them). The process of ordering and then filling the order was illogical and painfully slow (it's a hot dog off the griller and a pre-made drink -- not too complicated). We really wanted a fresh smoothie, but clearly that was just going to be too much of a challenge. They didn't have my favorite, the Banana Daquiri, and were also out of 2nd choice Strawberry. We got a mango and the original papaya, and both tasted like they were made from a bad mix. The hot dog was still good, but this was a hugely disappointing experience! Stick to the locations farther downtown.
