Perhaps it should best be compared to a museum. The Saks Fifth Avenue location, on Fifth Avenue, is simply a shrine to handbags. I cannot kid you. I have only purchased a Saks branded tote bag there, as that is all I can afford. Nonetheless, I make sure I stop in there at least once each year to revel in the presence of some of the top designer labels. Fendi, Yves St. Laurent, Gucci, Burberry…they are the bags you see in Vogue and Women’s Wear Daily and just dream of owning. I splurge on some lower end bags, but I head to this museum of purses to check out some of the finest stuff on the market. I did buy a wristlet at Saks once, so does that count as a purse? Seriously, this store is a must for a person who admires good workmanship. Saks is absolutely mobbed during the holiday season, but if you happen to be in Manhattan at any other time, it is worth a look. And don’t be afraid to buy the tote bag – I actually got plenty of use out of it! more
