So far I am still alive! 1/15/2006

Ok... seriously I have no reason to believe that I ever should have died.. but I always think that as a positive of a hospital. I have had experience with two wards of this hospital - the maternity ward and the heart ward - which happen to be on the same floor. My first real experience was after my father-in-law had a heart attack. We (my husband and I) originally took him to a hospital closer to his house, but they found they could not handle is heart trauma, so they transferred him to Methodist. There they did an angiogram and put him on some new medicine and so far, so good (well relatively). My other two experiences have been in the births of my two children. When people tell me they would like a home birth I wonder why, I had such a great experience at the hospital, I would not want to change that. First, when I had my son I needed a c-section. They were very cooperative in that I still wanted to have my contacts in and wanted to see being cut open - so they put a mirror up for me to see (actually it was rather cool). Then after his birth they were there for me to help me learn to breastfeed and to take him to the nursery when I needed a breather. I of course choose them when I had my daughter then. They (along with my ob/gyn) were very responsive and cooperative in my wanting to have a vbac.. and even with two hours of pushing, they never pushed me to have a C and I did give birth the VBAC way. Then with both times I was in a comfortable room that my husband could sleep in as well, and I had all my meals provided for me. And while I hope you never have to go to the hospital, if you do, this is my choice. more
