I have scoured the internet looking for better rates than I thought I could find in Hawaii. A lot of the on-line lenders are in a word... bogus. I called a few of them and some of them wanted to charge me for the TIL's and the GFE's I said thanks, but no thanks. When I finally realized I had to keep it local I called ASB. Granted, our credit score was very good so we got a very good rate. A mainland competitor was quite sneaky in how he phrased my credit score. He said, this is the best rate we can give you based on your credit report. I was shocked, then I found out that he wasn't lying, it was the best rate *HE* could offer based on our credit score.
Anyway, do your research before you dive in, the rate is only part of the hunt, look at other fees.
