I switched to a midwife that worked out of Harris Methodist in my 34th week of pregnancy because I was determined to have an unmedicated birth. The birth experience itself was great due to the midwife and my doula, although I was very irritated with the hospital itself. Just a couple of the things didn't work for me: The admissions nurse required that I answer her ridiculous questions while 7 cms dilated and just entering transition. The birthing room itself was only okay. I've seen much nicer facilities, and they couldn't find the plug for the jacuzzi so my doula had to compromise. They would come into our room at all hours of the night, after we'd been awake for more than a day and a half, and take blood from our son. This was something that could have been done in the day. Every single person who even thought of looking at me or my son sent us a separate bill. There is no central billing department, and it was incredibly hard to figure out exactly what they were charging me for. It took me a month to get it all straightened out. The only reason Harris even gets two stars is because there were some staff that genuinely cared and were great to our family. Otherwise the facilities themselves were rather poor. more
