If you are in the City with kids and don't want to make the trek or don't have the time to go to the far superior Bronx Zoo, this is a wonderful kid friendly alternative. This is not the same zoo I remember as a child but when the NY Zoological Society took over it became primarily a children's zoo. They have done a wonderful job. You can watch Gus, New York's favorite obsessive compulsive polar bear do his laps. From the zoo, venture out into Central Park or Fifth Ave.
Enter by 68th Street and exit at 59th Street and venture over to FAO Schwarz to see the toys, (not as good as they used to be.)
