Pricey cuts and color with careless service 8/6/2005

I must say I was curious to try the world-famous salon where many celebrities get their hair done. What I found out is that it really pays to be a celebrity here to get good service. First of all, the salon is located in one of the most expensive areas of NY - tony 57th Street between 5th and Madison. Second, it's located in the cool, curvy and sloping LVMH/Chanel building. So, I guess this ritzy location justifies the high prices. I paid an exorbitant amount of money (10x the normal price) for a haircut and color and both were not what I expected. The cut was way too short even though I showed both a picture of the length I wanted and showed her on my hair itself. There were too many layers and the so-called stylist chose to use her own creative 'vision' to fix my hair. Meanwhile, I asked the colorist to touch up my roots (I'm a sandy brunette who goes beach blonde) and they mismatched my hair color! I was orange/red on top and blonde on the bottom. How difficult is it to match a color? Obviously, very if you go to FF and are not a celebrity. And for all that, I paid a fortune. I was brusquely told by the reception staff that I could have my hair redone for free. But why endure all of that again and damage my hair further? Not worth the price and hassle just to say I got my hair done at Frederic Fekkai. more
