Unprofessional - Maria, the stylist I was recommended by the salesman on the street, was a half hour late to arrive at work let alone be ready to start my appointment. Hyacinth kindly started on washing my hair while I waited.\r \r When Maria asked me if I wanted layers - I said no - then when she showed me my haircut she told me that she had put layers in anyway.\r \r Hair cut was uneven. I couldn't tell straight away because Maria over blow-dried my bob. I realised when I later had to style my hair myself... there was a 'gap' on the left-rear of the bob and then longer layers on the right-rear.\r \r Disappointed. Gary, the sales guy on the street, told me the salon was offering a special to the first 25 'cute' girls only. While I didn't buy into that, I let him show me some reviews. He didn't want to show me the yelp reviews, but I looked them up on my own phone while he was standing next to me. There were some negative reviews, but I also found enough good reviews to inform my decision to accept the deal. I was wanting to get a haircut, and while in the past I've been to nice, up-market stylists, I now usually go to Just Cuts who do a decent job for under $30.\r \r Okay, haircut done. Then time for the mani-pedi. I do my own nails and this was my first professional one. I think the manicurist's name was Sophia (but could be wrong). She seemed rough and careless - but I didn't know any better having not been to a professional before so thought this might be reasonable. But after she completed my pedi, and while I was waiting for the mani to dry, my stylist decided she wanted to get her nails done. The manicurist seemed much more gentle and precise with Maria's hands than mine so I started to feel a little sad, waiting for my manicure to set and watching her do a nicer job on my stylist. My toes turned out very nicely - can't complain about the finish - however, the polish on my mani shrunk away significantly from the edge of the nails before the end of the day. So overall I wasn't impressed with the mani-pedi service either.\r \r The staff were all friendly enough - except the manicurist. I felt like she didn't enjoy touching people's hands and feet for a living - which is fair enough - but it's not professional to make sure that the clients realise you wish they weren't in front of you. And to feel like this for my first mani-pedi made the whole thing a lot less of a special treat for myself.\r \r I spent c. $80 buying the special from Gary - which included the haircut, wash, blow dry, 'cellophane'/shine hair treatment and mani-pedi. Then a service fee of $15 plus tip - but because the girl behind the counter misunderstood my instructions to make the service fee plus tip total $50 (she instead deducted the service fee plus a tip of $50) - the entire service cost me about $150. I forgave the error and figured I wouldn't miss the $15 too much. Probably not usually un unreasonable amount to spend getting all this done - but next time I'm gonna save myself $120, do my own nails and just go to Just Cuts.\r \r I probably would have left the experience as 3 stars if not for the uneven cut. Now I just feel like I threw money away. I was visiting from Australia - and as someone who got spruiked to on the street - I recommend you go in with open eyes.\r \r I don't understand why there are more negative reviews for this salon on Yelp than anywhere else, but I'm going to put this review on all relevant sites. more
