As I write this, it is 2:30 AM on a Tuesday night. I am awake because it is 84 degrees in my home and my little boy is crying in his bedroom because, for the 13th night in a row, it is too hot for him to sleep. Briggs Realty was notified 13 days ago that our AC unit was broken and it was imperative it be fixed since the forecast showed hot days ahead. When their maintenance guy finally came, he had no idea what he was doing, said he'd come back the following week since he couldn't get the needed part. Nobody ever showed up and I had to repeatedly call them to get any response.. Which brings me to the most mind blowing part of this whole experience with these incompetent, angry slum lords. The woman there actually began chastising me and saying things like ""you did not make yourself available for maintenance"" and ""what reality are you living in?""... What?? Completely inappropriate to my simple and polite request that someone please come fix the AC since it had been over a week since I could even lay in bed without drenching the sheets in sweat. You can tell by her abrasive and seemingly insane responses to everything that she is used to berating tenants with a few choice lines, regardless of their relevance to the current circumstances; just assaults people into submission and spouts off lies and nonsense to make it seem as though YOU are somehow at fault. Just bizarre . I pay $1,750 a month for a home with central air, yet I am verbally assaulted when I ask that they fix my AC when it is unbearably hot for nearly 2 weeks?
As if that weren't enough, my washer flooded and ruined over a thousand dollars worth of items , covering everything is sludge and mold. The washer was unusable. That was 6 WEEKS AGO and they just replaced it TODAY!!!! After threatening a lawsuit, I was told they would bring over a brand new washer. It arrived today and I can honestly say I kind of thought they were joking. Then I remembered that a sense of humor is strictly forbidden at this nightmare of a company and realized that they were seriously installing a washer that was covered in yard sale stickers and had dirt and paint all over the inside and outside! Brand new washer?? To top it off, the maintenece guy who installed it brought his buddy who aggressively insisted that I destroy all of my ""idols"" , including various Buddha figures I collected in my travels, along with anything that may be offensive to God. I'm not talking a gentle nudge in a ""holy direction"", I mean almost 2 hours of me being terrified by rants of Satan entering my house through my ""false idols"". He kept saying he wanted to take all of my decor out my house so he could dispose of the devil's devices... Lest anyone think I'm exaggerating, I have recordings and will gladly post them if anyone has suggestions as to an appropriate forum.
The sad thing is, he was actually the nicest, most rational person I have ever dealt with from this company. I cannot emphasize enough how incredibly horrific and stressful renting from them has been. In addition to all the time I've spent calling and waiting for maintenance, I haven't had use of the home I'm paying for. And now it's looking like a lawsuit is imminent. I urge you to NOT rent from these people!!!! I wouldn't lease property from this company if it was free. I'm serious. Now excuse me, I need to go cool off by putting my head in the fridge... if its working.
