Legendary Drag Queen Restaurant and Bar! 6/18/2011

I LOVE this place!!!! I have been coming to Lucky Cheng's for years and have yet to be disappointed! I mean honestly, for the price of dinner and a show in NYC, it's a pretty great deal! I live in the east village and it's definitely a place I take my friends from out of town for a fun night of food, drinks and laughs. We always have a fantastic time!!! The food is good and they have several options for vegetarians like myself:) The portions are huge so we never leave this place hungry. The waitresses are always friendly attentive and willing to take tons of pictures with me and my friends. The entertainment is hysterical; I always laugh my ass off, and if you want to participate and get on stage or really embarrass your friends you can, (I always see tons of birthday and bachelorette celebrations here) And the drinks are tasty and right in the price range for other neighborhood bars. (this is NYC people, sorry, but if you're expecting to pay $5 for a drink you need to go back in time to the 80's) The place is a bit campy, but hey, it's a drag queen cabaret bar, what do you expect? I actually love the ambiance! In addition to the dining area filled with dim lighting and colorful lanterns, there is a bar area in the front of the restaurant for patrons that just want to drink and not eat dinner. (this has been great for those late night drop ins w/friends that just want to check it out or attempt to sing karaoke) Lailah, the bartender, is very engaging and always has funny story's to tell. There are even a few ""regulars"" that I see when I come here, which let's be honest, I think that says a lot for the staff and how they treat customers. It's a quirky ""Cheers"" you might say. Also, for those that may not know this, Lucky Cheng's has worked with some pretty cool celebrity's. Lady Gaga and Cyndy Lauper shot their MAC Viva Glam campaign here, it was featured on the first season of Sex and the City where Carrie and friends attend a birthday party, and for those die hard 30 Rock fans such as myself, it's been featured several times as the place where Jenna's boyfriend Paul works and impersonates her. I really get a kick out of that stuff! All in all, I think Lucky Cheng's is definitely one of those places you must visit when in NYC. more
