I have moved several times and never took the time to find a primary care physician. When I moved to Atlanta, I began seeing a specialist for some health problems (I was 28 and single at the time) While they ran specific tests, I have to say that the bills were quite expensive and knowing that I was young, even they suggested I meet with someone for general exams etc. When I asked for a recommendation, the physician's assistant said Dr. A was her doctor and I took that as a great seal of approval and called for an appt. About a year later, Dr. A. switched to her private practice/that includes the annual fee and while I can understand that it seems expensive, you have to understand that the value and overall care far exceeds the expense. You are most likely saving money/incurring future health expenses due to the exceptional, thorough and immediate care you receive. You do not wait weeks for an appointment, you do not see her for only 2 minutes, you actually sit in her office and TALK about your health and then have your annual physical in an exam room. Dr. A and her staff are so welcoming, this is not your standard doctor's office, trust me - even their waiting room serves the needs of her patient's and their families, I could go on and on but I would recommend that you at least go and visit her office prior to assuming it's something you cannot afford. I am now 32yrs. old, and while I have not yet started a family with my husband, I already feel great reassurance knowing that Dr. A will be our family's physician.
