Best Small Town Cafe 9/3/2010

What a gem! In a world full of expensive, impersonal, get out quick restaurants staffed by people with memorized one-liners and terrible birthday songs; this place will take you back to the quiet of Mayberry. You walk in to a bright and cheerful cafe with booths to the left and an old 1930's style horseshoe-shaped (hince the name) counter complete with tall chrome and vinyl stools on the right. The menu had a great selection of lunch sandwiches and wonderful prices. I decided to try the bison burger for $4.25 and fries. They also had elk burgers on the menu! The bison was a first for me and tasted wonderful! The owner-chef cooks them tender and juicy. For dessert I tried a piece of the chocolate cake with Hot chocolate sauce poured on top. Holy cow this was awesome!! It was so moist that I didn't have to chew! It just sort of melted in my mouth! My lunch ended with some wonderful conversation with the locals that drift in apparently on a daily basis. Everyone knew each other's name and welcomed this stranger into their world. If you find yourself on I85 in South Hill, get off the Interstate and drive into the heart of town for a truly memorable meal. more
