We found Dr. Fred after moving here 6 years ago; he diagnosed a long time problem that no other vet had been able to, and supported me with the decision to euthanize her because of her continued pain. He's just amazing with little creatures- so professional and my pets have absolutely no fear with him; he's kind and tolerant in the face of questions that may seem over reactive etc. He also seems to hire amazing staff- knowledgeable, supportive, interested,caring and genuine. Their dental cleaning is not only the least expensive we've had, but also the best. I trust him with staying current on any topics (from a nurse's perspective); his diagnostic capacity is superb. I would choose him over the vet school for diagnostic and for being upfront about prognosis and cost. When I move 350 miles away I plan to bring my pets for care with him as we pass through Madison. We've had many pets for 40 years; Dr. Nothnagel and staff are tops.
