Stylists do not listen or communicate very well! 4/13/2009

A few weeks before our wedding, my fiancee went to Xazz to have his dreads re-twisted by a stylist named Lily. His dreads reach the middle of his back and it was a while since he last had them twisted. But what Lily did to remedy his situation was horrible, inexplicable and unconscionable: she cut through the hair at the root of his dreads with tiny scissors and did not discuss this process with him! Almost all of the dreads in the crown of his head are hanging on by a few strands of hair! She never once explained why she did this or gave him any options or communicated with him in any way regarding this process. It wasn't until he returned home later in the evening that he discover what Lily did and since it was a Saturday evening, he waited until Tuesday to speak with the owner about this awful situation. She did refund all of his money but it was cold comfort regarding the fragile state of his hair. Needless to say, my honey was extremely upset because he has spent years growing his dreads only to have them hanging dangerously by a few strands in a few short minutes. \r Next up: my horrible experience with Xazz Salon! I had (I write ""had"" because I will explain my experience later) naturally kinky-curly hair that was at almost bra-strap length when stretched. After his hellish experience, I was reluctant to go to Xazz Salon so I tried calling around to other stylists to have my hair blown out for my wedding but they were going on vacation or having sugery so I relented and called Xazz as a last resort and booked an appointment with Lily. I bring my own products to any salon because I am extremely picky about what goes into my hair (I don't use products with silicones because they cause terrible build-up, dryness and breakage and I try to use products like the Giovanni or Aubrey Organics line that are as natural as possible) and while Xazz tolerates this practice, they constantly try to push Aveda products with clients. I think Aveda is EXTREMELY over-rated and expensive and is chock full of silicones to boot (you might as well use Pantene)! I have not set foot in a salon for a service in a year because I do all of my washing, deep conditioning treatments and styling at home and my hair has thrived with me nurturing it so Lily was commenting on how healthy my hair is and how much it had grown in a year. She washes my hair with an Aveda shampoo (whatever!) but uses my own deep conditioning treatment which I mix at home and sits me under the dryer for 30 minutes. Next, she rinses the DCT and I ask her to use Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner to blow-out my hair. The blow-out was fine except I thought my hair would go into a huge 'fro but it would not due to its length. Also, the VERY, VERY, VERY ends of my hair needed a trim (about 1/2 inch) and since my original stylist did not have time to trim my ends because she had her next appointment waiting, I went to another stylist named Tina. I told Tina THREE times that I wanted only 1/2 inch trimmed from my ends and Tina assured me THREE times that she would only trim that much. But Tina did not communicate with me AT ALL as she proceeded to CUT about 1-2 inches from my hair in an attempt to get it into an 'fro! I finally had to tell her to ""STOP!"" cutting my hair! After our honeymoon, I returned to the salon and expressed my outrage to the owner who, like with my husband, refunded my money, offered me products and services which I declined since I don't use Aveda and do my own services at home. Bottom line: Xazz may look pretty from the decor and this may give you a false sense of professionlism and ""class"" but the stylists are arrogant and don't listen to the wishes/needs of the client. I am VERY disappointed in Xazz Salon! Pros: Nice decor, stylists are on time, stylists don't overbook Cons: stylists do not communicate which is so IMPORTANT!!! more
