The Jewel in the Crown 8/30/2008

In early 2007, Wardwell's fixed in 3 days what others could not fix in 9 months. My 1990 RCA Proscan was too purpose-built to throw away when audio AND video failed only minutes apart (complete with the requisite "ZAP" and puff of smoke), so I was willing to go to extra time and expense to repair it. Living in the middle of TV-repair-nowhere, I started working with the closest shops first; all talked the same willing-but-helpless talk due to the age of the set. After 2 failed repairs and months of waiting for mythical shipments of parts to arrive I called Wardwell's, certain that the 35-mile distance would be a stumbling block for both of us, but driven by the repairable fantasy of the set that no one so far disputed. Wardwell's not only spoke casually and unwaveringly to that fantasy, but made it happen in the relative blink of an eye at a price anyone could afford starting with a NEXT DAY HOUSE CALL. Lo, these 16+ months later, the Proscan lives on, AND with a much better picture image than I ever remember. Harry W. has been gone for years, but his successor's competence, integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction perpetuates the nobility of his name, and are delightfully reminiscent of ''that old TV repair guy'' who came to our house and saved my rainy cartoon Saturday in 1959. PS: call them for sage advice BEFORE you buy you next TV; you may not have to call them quite so soon after. Pros: expert in his field, quick, personable, almost too good to be true Cons: prices too low for value of service more
