As a repeat patron of this restaurant and it's sister(?) location in Vestavia, I feel it necessary to balance the two negative reviews left so far. The Southside location offers a slightly less innovative menu than the Vestavia store, but there's still plenty of quality food to choose from. The Red Bird roll, Rock and Roll, and Popeye roll are all excellent. They offer a product on a par with their competitors, for a price that's equivalent. I really don't see where there's much room for complaint. Perhaps previous reviewers' expectations were unrealistic. My expectation was based on previous experience at the Vestavia store and the restaurant's earlier incarnation, Sakura. The food and service was far superior to Sakura, without a doubt. However, one key Sakura element was missing: The Weather Channel-esque light jazz of the current store just doesn't provide the cathartic experience of eating good food while listening to a cacophonous blast/mix of Jesus Lizard and Junior Senior. However, that was a different place and different time; it's not fair to compare the new place to the old. I would recommend the place to anyone in need of good sushi and Sapporo(s).
Pros: Good food; convenient location; familiar, comfortable room
Cons: Made to order food takes more time than Ruby Tuesday, while not a true ""con"" could turn some off.
