Don't order the ravioli.... 10/24/2008

This was a dissapointing experience to say the least. A friend and I went before seeing a show at the Fox, and while were lucky enough to get a table promptly, I wish we had walked out instead. I admit that the place has charm and is well decorated...ambiance was not the problem. While my friend ordered a salad, I chose the butternut squash ravioli, priced at $19. I felt that it was a reasonable price until I recieved my meal. On the plate there were THREE ravioli (not oversized) and two scallops. While the food was cooked fine, the ""butter"" sauce they were drowning in was almost pure oil. I have never been so appalled at a portion size. I have eaten at nice restaurants, so this is not a case of ignorance about fine dining. When asked about our experience by the server, we mentioned the portion size and were flippantly told ""oh, well butternut squash is very expensive."" I do quite a bit of gourmet cooking, and I know how expensive food is and is not, and I know the price of butternut squash has not risen to that ludicrous of a price. Also, when I finished my meal (rather quickly) I was passed by my own server and other staff three times before my plate was cleared. For those who still want to brave the experience, as a side note, there were upcharges on sharing and multiple payments. As a final note, this is not just a random rant by an overly harsh critic, in fact I have never before this experience been compelled to even write a review. But, as it ruined the first half of what I expected to be a lovely night out at the theatre, I felt I needed to have my say. Pros: Ambience Cons: Portion size, bad for ""family style"" eating and sharing more
