DB Bistro Moderne - Disappointing 10/7/2007

Walked in on a Thursday night but had to wait half an hour for a table. The service was good and attentive but the food I thought was average for the price and the reputation of the place. The waitter told us the signature dishes were the Alsantian (can't quite remember the name so forgive me if this is wrong) and the famous DB burger. \r \r The Alsantian was extremely disappointing, it was basically a mini pizza. However the Tuna tartare was amazing and easily the best dish of the night. However the fantastic tuna tartare set the bar very high and I had high expectations for the main courses and desserts, although they were tasty, never quite lived up to my expectations.\r \r Ordered the duck and the salmon wrapped in bacon for the mains. The duck was tasty and well cooked with a fantastic sauce. The salmon was well cooked but I felt this was a simple dish that any one could do at home, only the addition of the roasted figs to the dish saved the dish from being average.\r \r The biggest disappointment of the night was the desert. Dont get me wrong but I am a desert guy, i love them. I ordered the fig cake, big mistake should have stuck with a chocolate desert as these looked fantastic. The cake was soaked in what the menu described as a ""sangria soup"" although it tasted nice, it just made the cake all soggy and a mess.\r \r This is my first time to NYC and I come from a small town, so I may not be the best food critic. But I felt many other restaurants in the city (L'cole, Yaktori Totto) lived up to my expectations more. \r \r more
