Mediocre food, indifferent staff 12/4/2002

Back in the 1970s the Mandarin was known for he ""best"" Chinese food in San Francisco, I am sad to report that this restaurant is no longer worthy of it's former glory. We ordered Hot and Sour soup, an eggplant vegatable entree, and aspargus chicken. The soup was OK, but both entrees were overcooked and drenched in sauces. The quality of the food was no better than that of a fast food Chinese vendor - mediocre at best. Our tab for 2 entrees & 1 appetizer, no drinks = $60.00. We waited 15 minutes while the waiter and manager figured out how to redeem the gift certificate we were using. The manager decided that rather than give us the difference between our gift certificate and our bill, that he would give himself a 30% tip!! Overpriced mediocre food and the staff is less than helpful. Have dinner somewhere else! Cons: Mediocre food, Expensive, Inattentive staff more
