I would like to state what happened to my mother while she was in Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto in Southaven, MS. When my mother was initially placed in her room alone, she was being tube fed. She couldn't eat, she couldn't drink, and she couldn't throw up. Whenever she received an injection of nausea medication,(Phenergan) she didn't even know where she was. There was no way that she could press the nurse's button if she needed help. I was afraid to leave her. I sat beside her bed one night as she was sleeping and she said "Johnny sleep tight". That is what she always said to me at night before she tucked me into bed as a child. I cried uncontrollably for at least 20 minutes. I asked one of her doctors if he would transfer her to the intensive care unit but he refused. He said "maybe later". I could tell that my mother was getting worse rapidly. I then asked 3 nurses if they knew of an agency that I could call to hire someone to be with my mother when I could not be there. They said that they did not know of any such agency. I have bipolar disorder. I knew that if I didn't get any sleep at all that I would be hospitalized. My fear was realized. I became so upset about my mother that I had to be placed in a mental hospital for 4 of the last 5 days of my mother's life. I couldn't be there to help her at all. On Dec 26, 2015 I received a message from Baptist indicating that my mother wasn't doing well. I went back to the hospital and pushed back the curtain surrounding her bed. Her body had been turned around and her head was facing the foot of the bed. There wasn't even a sheet placed over her and she was in a fetal position. I didn't know that she had passed away. I was horrified. My mother and I were extremely close. LEAVING A PATIENT ALONE IN A HOSPITAL ROOM WHILE BEING TUBE FED AND INCOHERENT IS INEXCUSABLE. SHE COULDN'T POSSIBLY GET HELP ON HER OWN.
