Do not use Davis Auto Body for your vehicle repair! We are a military family that moves every few years and had not yet found a reliable body shop in the Tampa area when our vehicle was in an accident. Our vehicle was totaled, but we elected to get a salvaged title and have it repaired. This meant that we would get a check from the insurance company and then assume responsibility for the repair.
The first issue with Davis Auto Body is that Morris refused to provide an independent estimate of the work he planned to do. He planned to use the insurance adjuster's report as the estimate. We should have walked away at this point because he would be doing the work for us instead of for the insurance company. We didn't walk away because we already owed him storage fees, which would be waived if he did the repair, and because of the time pressure to get the vehicle back in service. If we could do it over again, we would have walked away and found a better body shop.
The second issue is that they were very difficult to work with when we were going through the vehicle registration process. The state needed copies of their parts invoices and a detailed overall invoice. It took a conference call between us, them, and a state employee, plus a discussion about whether they had paid their taxes, in order to get them to provide the necessary paperwork. It was unbelievable that they would refuse to provide a customer with a detailed receipt for work performed.
The third issue is that they overcharged for parts. We found this out after getting copies of the parts invoices. We were charged $3350 for parts, but the total cost from the invoices was around $1800. Of course, none of this information was available when it was time to pay the final bill.
Any one of these three issues is a red flag by itself and indicates shady business practices. Please save yourself a ton of hassle and money and go somewhere else for your vehicle repair. We would give zero stars if we could.
