I contacted Door Repair Co and informed them that one of the two tension springs had snapped and that I needed to schedule a service call to have it replaced. They put me on their scheduled for 5:00p that very day. Rep arrived on time. He began "up-selling" before he even saw the door. I had a very simple issue...one of the two springs had snapped. Sales Rep recommended replacing both springs, all three bearings and both cables. Total with labor, parts and sales tax..roughly $800. I said "No thank you, I'll pay your $50 service call fee and goodbye." He wanted to work a deal. I was crystal clear in that all I wanted was to have the springs replaced. I provided him with the dollar amount of what it was worth to me to have it done. Take it or leave it. After much back and forth, he accepted the job for the negotiated price. He replaced the springs in about 30 mins and was on his way. Overall, it was an ok experience and so far, the door works well. I would not recommend this vendor to a friend or family. I had to negotiate with the Service Rep just to get to a FULL RETAIL price. His initial service estimate was ridiculously expensive. Opportunistic pricing in my opinion. I will not use them again. Two stars is a stretch but he did arrive as scheduled, he had all the parts he needed, he knew what he was doing, and he was quick. The hard-sell approach and the up-selling of very expensive, comprehensive service was troublesome to me. I know if it had been my parents on the other end of this experience, they would have accepted his estimate of $800. (Check the internet…the parts retail for $40 to $80 each…labor for installation $100 seems reasonable…the retail value to replace a pair of springs should be $200 to $250. NOT $600 to $800). Beware…good luck!
