On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, 2011, we were informed by our tenant (who had just moved into their house two days prior) that there was water backing up in their basement whenever they ran water. We went to the house right away and checked it out. We found out that we had a drainage blockage in the main line leading from the house out to the street.
We then called several plumbers and found that, due to the holiday weekend, everyone we spoke with wanted to charge an emergency service fee, in addition to the charge to clear the line. All, that is, except Roto-Rooter from Alexandria, VA. They explained to us that they did not charge for emergency service!
We quickly requested that the plumber come to the house and clear the line. When the plumber arrived, he immediately surveyed the situation and told us what he thought the problem was in the drain line. He then gave us an acceptable price quote to address the problem. The price quoted was in line with, or less than, the other quotes we had received that afternoon, and we did not have to pay an emergency fee!
Once we gave the plumber the OK for the job, he went to work right away. The drain was quickly cleared and we (and the tenant) were pleased. On top of that, the plumber was courteous, respectful and efficient.
If we ever have need for another plumber to clear a drain, we will contact Roto-Rooter first!
