Appalling Service 8/21/2009

I read the reviews and was so excited to come here with my family, but had a simply horrible, embarrassing experience!!! The following is a review about their service, but to be fair not their food as we were never able to try it. The minute we walked in the door we were clearly not welcome there. Why? Because we had 5 people in our party. Yep, that's right, 5. Not 10, not 20, but 5 - and let me mention that we had only 3 adults, the other 2 were little kids! The waitress actually kind of tried to turn us away from the half-empty restaurant and it was very uncomfortable as we stood there being told we couldn't be accommodated since they only had tables for 4 or for 2. We inquired if we could just put another chair at the head of one of the tables and the waitress reluctantly went to ask the manager if she could put another chair at the head of the empty table that we stood next to - but mentioned that he probably wouldn't say yes because they used to have tables that seated six and they simply couldn't handle it. So she had us start to sit down - and at this point we were completely uncomfortable because everyone was staring at us like we were causing some sort of scene - and then made us get up again because they actually didn't HAVE an extra chair to put at the head of the table, but we COULD split up and sit on opposite sides of the restaurant (um, I guess I could have eaten with the two little ones by myself?). The only extra chair available in the restaurant that worked at our table was at a table of three and they didn't want to give us the chair because they thought someone might show up as they were completing their meal (what the restaurant did with the extra chairs when they sat many tables of six I don't know). We politely said, no thank you, we would like to eat together. So, we were all becoming more and more uncomfortable at this point, but were still very polite and asked if we could sit at the sushi bar, which was mostly empty and where we could all sit together. We were promptly told that NO, that was for all-you-can-eat only and we simply could not sit there unless ALL of us had all-you-can-eat (yes, including the two little ones), but could sit in their waiting area and wait for a second table to open up (there were only 3 tables by the way that sat 4) so that we could have a 5th chair. So, we stupidly said okay because at this point we were a little dumbfounded. (I mean, this restaurant was half-empty! And they don't take reservations, so that wasn't it.) We had to ask were this sitting area was because the waitress had walked away from us. We waited and waited, were not offered anything to drink, not even water, and watched as a party of 4 sat down at our table and was immediately taken care of. Now at this point, we realized that our ability to be seated would depend on two tables of four opening up either simultaneously or that two of the three tables would remain empty long enough for us to nab one of them plus the extra chair before another group walked in. We really had no other choice but to leave because it was fairly clear we would not receive a table. I was completely and totally appalled at our treatment. I am not so much writing to insult the restaurant, but to warn people against taking more than 4 people in. We had such a horrible, horrible experience and I don't want anyone else to have to go in there with a group and undergo the same thing. They made it abundantly clear that they were more interested in the hope that all of their all-you-can-eat bar seats would be full that evening than having a sure bet with us. We felt very unwelcome and will never, never step foot in there again. Pros: Proximity to my parents' home Cons: Total lack of accommodation - will not seat more than 4. more

Best Sushi in Tahoe! Don't let the young owner fool you. This guy is a pro! 3/29/2008

Yoshimi was one of the best sushi experiences in Tahoe to date. The decor was very inviting and the service was prompt and friendly. The owner was young but don't let that fool you. He has an extended knowledge of sushi along with his staff. Now onto the fish. The Hamachi melted in my mouth. The creamy texture of the fish finished clean and smooth leaving my mouth begging for more. The Sake too was perfect both in tempature and texture. The roll creativity was limited, but I expect great things to come. It would be wise to come early the lunch rush can get crowed. Overall I will be eating at Yoshimi whenever I am in Tahoe. Pros: The quality is consistant every time I go. Cons: The parking is a nightmare at times, and there is one grumpy waitress. more
