New York's Best Yoga Studio! 4/14/2011

If you're looking for a perfect mix of heart-pounding vinyasa and deep spiritual teachings, look no further. Yogamaya has it all. I don't know which is better-- the incredible teachers or the beautiful studio... In any case, this place is the total package. They're friendly, professional, and they really take the mystery out of the whole ""yoga world""-- showing you how to make your practice your own. I would recommend Yogamaya to beginners who are just dipping their toes in the water and to pros who are looking to deepen their practice... Some of the classes here are tough!! Other studios' ""level three"" classes are like a level two at Yogamaya... so pay attention what you sign up for! Enjoy!! more

Favorite Yoga Studio EVER 10/11/2010

I've been practicing yoga for over ten years now, and have taken class at many different spaces with many different teachers. I can say that Yogamaya is my favorite, without a doubt. The entire staff is warm and personable. It's easy to feel out of place in the often-trendy yoga world in NYC, but the people are totally welcoming and genuine. The classes I've taken there so far have all had a strong, dynamic flow, and there's a great balance of asana instruction and philosophy. The studio's website says it's goal is to be a place where ""everything is yoga"" - where all parts of the practice, not just asana, have a place. I think Yogamaya is absolutely achieving this; I've been to their kirtans and lectures, and have been inspired every time. more

New #1 Studio in NYC 10/5/2010

This is a new studio that has been open for just 3 months. Can't say enough about the teachers and the space, you need to experience it for yourself. Get there before it gets too crowed. Hard to find a better yoga expereience in NYC. Located on the top floor of a 6 floor building offering 2 large studios bathed in natural light. I have been practicing yoga for many years and this is my best experience to date. Thanks Yogamaya!!! more

Yoga Gem 10/4/2010

Gorgeous studio, amazing teachers...Yogamaya is such a great new studio for all levels of yogis, especially those new to Yoga. If you are not familiar with the teachers, try google-ing their names...you will find tons of raved reviews about their classes. Yogamaya also offers lots of fantastic events, kirtan (Indian music concerts), retreats, and workshops...truely a gem as an urban retreat. Def. worth checking out. :D more

Yogamaya ~ Something Special 10/3/2010

The experience begins when you walk through the doors of Yogamaya and quickly turns into a heart-led journey. You walk into an inviting atmosphere where there's no question that you belong; and a beautiful space where the attention to detail prepares you for the same care when it comes to your asana practice. I live in Pennsylvania (after nearly 17 years in Manhattan) and while I've practiced at several NYC studios, it is Yogamaya that I lament not being close enough to enjoy regularly. I've taken Stacey Brass' class and can say, without pause, that she is an exceptional teacher in every sense of the word. Her humor anchors an otherwise serious practice; She inspires the spirit of the practice while articulating physical direction that deepen the poses and opens up the paths for prana to flow with force and ease. Yogamaya is a gift to NYC every Yogi & Yogini who experience its wide array of amazing offerings! more

Amazing Yoga Studio in Chelsea 10/3/2010

I have had the pleasure of studying yoga under Stacey Brass, one of the founders of Yogamaya, for the last five years and was thrilled to check out this new studio. My already high expectations were far exceeded from the moment I walked in. The space itself is absolutely beautiful in design with lofty ceilings, wood carved windows and exquisite paintings throughout. One has a feeling of spaciousness and relaxation in every room whether it be the reception, changing room or practice space which is so hard to find anywhere in NYC. There are a wide range of classes accommodating yogis of all levels, as well as specialized instructions such as the Men's Class, Big Juicy or Restorative. I have truly enjoyed every class I have taken from various teachers at Yogamaya where there is a strong emphasis on the choreography of the poses, embodying the true essence of the Vinyasa practice. Although I have studied yoga for many years, I love that I can take an open level or level 1 class and still be challenged by the instructor. In addition, their level 3 classes are designed to enable the advanced practitioner to evolve their Asana practice in a mindful and safe environment. Additionally, there is a perfect balance of the spiritual practice with the physical, that is truly respectful of all, no matter what your personal spiritual or religious beliefs may be. I have been to many studios in NYC and I would say that Yogamaya is without a doubt my favorite because every aspect of the space honors the inner and outer landscape of the yoga practice. I always look forward to and am grateful for the time I get to spend there and take a retreat from hectic city life. more

Great new studio in Chelsea 10/3/2010

Chelsea needed a new, uncrowded studio where everyone from beginners to the experienced yogi can feel comfortable and relaxed. This is a beautiful studio with friendly, helpful teachers and staff, and some great prices/special offers. Give it a try - you won't regret it! more

Yogamaya is a beautiful studio ...from the indian wood accents, the skylights and wall hangings with deities... to the photo prints in the restrooms.
