Free museum: Shrunken Heads, mummies... 7/3/2006

Ye Olde Curiosity Shop is indeed old. And interesting at that, it is a remnant of the old boardwalk beach stores found along the coast. Walking in the place transforms me to a magical place that holds interesting artifacts that one does not encounter every day, like petrified mummies. There is no store like it and well worth the experience. Play tourist one day... Inside there are the touristy souvenirs, black & white photos of Seattle during the gold rush, native art and petrified mummies. Be forewarned, it is too tight for strollers in there. It's free entertainment if you take the time. www.yeoldecuriosityshop.com more

Play tourist for an hour! 4/21/2006

This is a fun shop to amuse yourself in. I don't think that I've ever actually purchased anything here, but you can certainly kill a lunch hour poking through their odd assortment of souveneirs and knick knacks and generally weird things that you can't really classify. In the back of a shop is the famous, creepy mummy inside a case - just like the one at the beginning of the movie, "BIG" - he's kind of fun to look at. more

The place for souvenirs 12/17/2005

Waterfront staple for tourists. Great place for cheap souvenirs and goofy tourist-related things. Store has a unique smell to it. Can’t quite place it. Maybe it comes from the assortment of preserved wildlife stuffed away in jars. Or maybe the 2 mummies are to blame. Very fun store. Large selection of key chains, t-shirts, pens, ashtrays, music, candy, junk, stuff, toys, etc. A must-stop! Found on the waterfront around Ivars and the people who sell 4 t-shirts for $10 more

Great Past times 12/17/2005

This place is a staple for people visiting the seattle area. If you are around the pier, please stop by the Curiosity shop, they have so many things from weird to plain normal that anyone would be satisfied. The most stunning thing they have here is the Mummy inside a case! This mummy has been there forever and can be viewed through a looking glass. It has a back story that is posted along the wall, which is quite the good read. more

Find fake cigarettes and the weirdest things possible. They have very expensive items as they are seattles landmarks and stuff. They have great figurines and t-shirts. If you don't have moneym just walk around, because you'll find very cool neat things that will make you want to buy. It's located on the water front so it is very wasy to find. more

For Looking, Not for Buying 12/9/2005

If you are a window shopper or love cool, interesting, or gross things, Ye Olde Curiosity Shop is a good place to kill some time. It might be a little intense for younger kids, but those who appreciate the weird will have a great time. The prices are a bit high, so everytime I go there I just browse. They do not have a lot of conventional stuff anyways, but that is the point of this store. more

Great for tourists, but skip for locals 12/2/2005

We all know Seattle's Pier area is a prime Seattle tourist destination, right? So doesn't it make sense that a store billing itself as "Ye Olde Curiosity Shop" would only have things that tourists would be interested in? If you've been to any gift shop in any city, town, township in this country, you've been to Ye Olde Curiosity Shop. My advice is to skip this store and head to Pike Place Market if you are looking for a good "Seattle" t-shirt or keychain for your friends from out of town. more

weird stuff 10/22/2005

Part Museum, Part Souvenirs and Crafts, Totally Curious 10/8/2005

Ye Olde Curiosity Shop has been around longer than I can remember. Located on Seattle's waterfront at Pier 54, it has moved once, but still retains one of the original whalebones that formed an arch over the old doorway. It is filled with natural curiosities, local and worldwide, such as two headed pigs and shrunken heads. They sell souvenirs, gifts, and Native American arts and crafts. It also contains historic artifacts from Seattle and around the world. And of course, it is famous for "Sylvester" the petrified man. He's fascinating, but not for the squeamish. Last April, they opened a second store front right next door, where additionally they sell ice cream and homemade fudge. more
