a snowboard store as opposed to a sporting good store 8/13/2005

when you walk into a snowboard store, you expect to be greeted by a young, "slacker" guy that says "dude" a lot n' also calls you "brah" for brother. when i was in grad school, i wouldn't have minded working for a snowboard store. after all, i've been snowboarding for a long, long time and do it very, very often. i've spent time keeping up on new products. i've tried out different products. i'm into freestyle, freeride, and downhill boarding; in other words, a variety of riding. however, i don't talk like that, thus i don't think, even though i'm a responsible guy, good with mechanical things, that stores would really jump to hire me. they'd think i'm nerdy, but i'm not. anyway, my favourite place to by snowboarding equipment is tri-city in fremont. however, some people not in the know are slow to believe that a "general sports" store would have the best deals on snowboarding equipment. some people think you must go to a specialty snowsports store. you don't _need_ to. at tri-city and other general sports store, though, they also try to hire the young, "slackers" that say "dude" all the time. it's funny, when i went to wintersport warehouse to pick up some free lift tickets, i was talking to the dude that was the kind of dude that says "dude" a lot, and i realized that 1) i was more knowledgable about snowboards than he, 2) i had more experience snowboarding than he, and 3) i had spent more time on the slopes that season than he. yet, i'm sure they're prefer to hire the dude that says "dude" a lot than me. you know? anyway, i'm satisfied with working my job as a mechanical engineer and just riding snowboards and tuning mine and my friends on my spare time instead of doing everyone's boards. so what do i think of wintersport warehouse? it's ok. it's what i expect of a snowboard store. i'll buy a few things there, now and then. however, when i need to make major purchases, i'll go to tri-city. after tri-city, the place i most often buy snowboarding equipment is probably any mountain. however, i don't necessarily like it much. honestly, i'd prefer to patronize the small stores that remind me of the skateboard stores i used to hang out at. after all, i'll buy snowboarding equipment from go skate if the price and availability is right. more
