Best

I travel a lot for work and have recently had to start boarding my "kids". One of them has severe health issues... Diabetes, blindness just to name a few. I've always been scared...

Worst

Wincrest is a good animal hospital IF you can afford it. Brought our dog in because he was dehydrated. They originally presented is with an estimate for $450.00. This did not ...

The new telephone answering system is awful 5/7/2016

Clients are left on hold for far too long and even the emergency line is not answered immediately. For the untold amount of money we've spent at Windcrest, I expect a more efficient way for staff to reach and to help clients, but apparently, that's too much to ask. more

Traumatically Insensitive 4/28/2016

We took our 1 year old kitten into emergency at Windcrest and were given an inaccurate estimate of the cost. for treatment, which lead us to believe we would have to euthenize him. We were then given a new bill which was thousands less. We went through four days of care for him, with much cost. We were called to take him home on day four and told "hes great!". Then, four hours later we were notified they had done a procedure without our consent and he was in need of immediate surgery. After paying thousands for his care, we were told he could not have the surgery because Dr. Dawkins was consulted by his veterinarian and would not approve us paying a minimal portion of the balance the following day,; it needed to be paid up front. This was followed by the veterinarian asking, " do you want your cat's ashes to stay here or to take them home in a box"? Their website says, " we’re animal lovers through and through. That means we care for our patients as if they were our own, and we go above and beyond". We beg to differ. It was an emotional and mental traumatization for our whole family as we ping ponged from "hes great, take him home to being told they did a procedure without our permission and he was now in need of emergency surgery. After telling us he was going into surgery, they told us they consulted Dr. Dawkins and the surgery was put to a halt because he would not allow us to pay a minimal portion of the cost the next day. The follow up statement of "do you want his ashes in a box" came from the veterinarian as we were JUST learning he was denied the surgery due to Dr. Dawkin's financial decision. We are so traumatized, we left with our cat in critical condition and went to another hospital. more

Complete peace and comfort with boarding 4/7/2015

I travel a lot for work and have recently had to start boarding my "kids". One of them has severe health issues... Diabetes, blindness just to name a few. I've always been scared to board my babies because my one is so high maintenance with medications. Well the second I walked into Windcrest, my heart felt at ease. They genuinely love every animal that comes through those doors. My kids get excited when they get there because they get to see their friends :) it's expensive, but worth every penny! And normal office visits are very reasonably priced. They are a place I definitely recommend to friends! more

Great place 8/8/2014

I took my guinea pig there two times and both doctors that saw him took REALLY good care of him! I have decided to take the rest of my animals there as a result! Thank you Dr. Wilkerson, Nancy and Karen more

Usually ok.. Depends on who is working. 10/10/2013

Wincrest is a good animal hospital IF you can afford it. Brought our dog in because he was dehydrated. They originally presented is with an estimate for $450.00. This did not include the cost of any treatment; Just some diagnostics. I like the place but really can't afford it. more

Compassion and Trust a great Animal Hospital 5/18/2013

In writing a review I did not want to boast on my personal experiences because there is almost always an emotional attachment to your words. I would rather give a personal observation. To many of us animals become part of the nuclear family and there is nothing we would not do for our family members. Sometimes emotions become entangled in purse strings and resentments are formed and in our minds comparisons are set to human cost. I wanted to look at the reviews as a complete picture to what was being written by others. Sometimes the wisest words come from the minds of the least expected. I have a quote that covers the experience you will receive at Windcrest Animal Hospital. "“You can judge a man's true character by the way he treats his fellow animals.” a quote by Paul McCartney.\r This is the big picture neither the price nor any plan to lure you in...... there is a compassion that people miss when choosing a veterinarian. This compassion goes beyond anything that is imaginable b more

This is the big picture neither the price nor any plan to lure you in...... there is a compassion that people miss when choosing a veterinarian. This compassion goes beyond anything that is imaginable because the people that become DVM's or Techs have a deep love for animals. Furthermore animal medicine is a bit more complicated because the patient cannot speak. Someone must speak for them. This is what I searched for from almost a two hour drive stretching into Maryland and through Delaware. I found very capable Vets for dogs, cats and cattle but none for exotics. Windcrest Animal Hospital is a compassionate well staffed establishment for the service of veterinarian medicines. Compassion goes hand and hand with empathy and the doctors and staff share your loves and loss in the lives of your pets. Windcrest Animal Hospital was the answer the only place that could take care of my pets. I had been to seven different vets none had the compassion for (particularly in general) my breed of animal. As for office visits the prices are the same in comparison and lower than most. If you have issues with prices I can suggest that you indulge your pet in health insurance through one of the many underwriters available. I did because compassion for my pets is greater than the cost to make them healthy. The staff is a delight as they make you welcome and the waiting time is very short, by the way coffee and tea is available to you as you wait. Anytime you call your calls are returned within a reasonable length of time, with an answer to your concern. I can call today and have an appointment in the AM no problem. I would further recommend and suggest you take your special pet to Windcrest Animal Hospital all their needs including boarding. My own experiences have been bringing my boys to Dr. Anthony Dallatore who I trust whole heartedly and who has all the traits mentioned in this review. My boys are Rats .literally real rats. Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them. All they think about is MONEY 2/22/2013

Do not go to this animal hospital unless you want to be treated so poorly that you feel upset and miserable. This organization provides medical care, but No customer service or care. All they think about is money. It is a pity that their vets are fine but their staff’s level is so poor. My cat had a surgery and they delayed surgery without notifying me/owner, did not call me about my cat’s status in ICU, did not return my calls, if they did, they keep calling to the number that I asked NOT to. As a result, the communication was so delayed that I had worried about my cat’s status. This happened so many times, I did not get a return call to the correct phone number, that I claimed this to the staff. They said “the customer care personnel will call you tomorrow”. No body called me. I expressed my complaints in writing three times however no response made. After two months, they finally got back to me, because a customer care personnel “accidentally found my fax on the fax mach more

Horrible Hospital!!! 10/18/2012

Please please please never take your pet here. I have had two exotic animals treated there since there is no one else around the area specializing in small animals. When my recent pet died, they gave us the box she was in and didn't even say sorry for your loss nothing, just the bill. How many times have we brought my pets in, only money they want no one cares about the customer service. I was carrying a cage in by myself they see you are caring it but no one cares to open the door or even simple patient care. It's like your pet is just a number, please take your pet somewhere else to save yourself from this place and their neglect. They will do anything to increase your bill, and no one can even properly diagnose an exotic animal there. For the money they charge you, at least they could have made a card to say i am sorry for your loss or anything, but these aren't people it's a selfish business. more

Wiggle Butts to the Vet 7/22/2012

I really do not understand all the bad reviews about this place. I been coming here for a long time since Dr. Gerrick worked as a doctor and now we got Dr. Anthony. He is great with our goldendoodle and did surgery on her twice and help my lab/mix before he died with cancer in his office. If you want the care you got to pay the price that comes with tests, surgery or what ever comes with that's part of a animals life. I save up for my dog no dog insurance here they rip you off. I rather save money for my dogs future because you never know when a emergency or surgery is coming. I really love this vet and grooming they also do a great job on my goldendoodle. The price is high but my dog is worth everything to me when it comes to care. more

Windcrest SUCKS 1/31/2012

If you care about your pet you will NEVER bring it to Windcrest. I have met someone who works there that has said because she likes my dogs to not bring them to where she works for they will be neglected and charge you extra for the nice long walks that your dog will never get. Before hearing this, I did take my dogs to Windcrest for checkups but the $$$ was a lot and was complete crap. I have pit bulls and understand the bad rep they have been given but honestly my dogs are the biggest babies in the world. Because they are pits however, Windcrest muzzles them but don't bother messing with the poodle who's barking and goig nuts next to me. Windcrest has also misdiagnosed my parents dogs and other friends dogs that I know just for $$. They wanted to do "experimental surgery" on a golden retriever for cancer but after brought to another vet...the golden is healthy :-) Windcrest, please stop what you are doing and love animals over hurting them. I understand you prob see the worst with d more

Run away, don't walk. 10/10/2010

Took my cat there for an urinary tract infection. I was told that it would be several thousand dollars to save him and I was under the impression he required surgery.\r \r Three days later I examined the bill to find that they basicaly gave him IV's, pain meds, and antibiotics for three days. The cost was just shy of $1600 and they wouldn't start working on him until I wrote a check for $1000. They gave me an estimate with a low ball figure of around $1050, and a high figure of around $1250. They told me that it would most likely be the lower number. I didn't even get to see my cat untill I paid in full. \r \r I have to agree with the other negative reviews because they mirror my experience. I would never, ever take a pet there unless there was absolutely no alternative. more

Run up the bill at pets expense 10/1/2010

Vets and techs alike have "drunk the kool aid" of the Windcrest group's policy/directive to run up the bill regardless of discomfort to pet and hardship to owner. Docs may be good but have no moral or ethical concern for patients or owners thanks to the Windcrest group's greed. They want to run up the bill and sell, sell, sell. They have no concern about the pain and discomfort they cause the animals by doing unnecessary testing, etc in order to pad the bill and run up the cost of services to the max.\r \r Further, Windcrest will attempt to slip in add-on items ie food suppliments, pre-pay stool samples, special shampoo, dental care kits and the like. and you have paid for items and taken them home before you know what happened. Rather than ask and discuss, they "presume the sale" and stick things into your bag with the minimum amount of discussion lest you say you don't want/need the items. If the vet talks about it, they assume you want it and if you don't say no or question furth more

Nightmare!! 7/22/2010

I called to make an appointment for my aging cat, and when I got into the hospital was told my appointment was made at another location. It was a Saturday, and I'm new to the area. I had explained that Friday him urinating outside the litter box and licking himself frequently. He seemed uncomfortable. The young girl on the phone must have put me on hold seven times and each time she came back on with some additional bit of information for me about either the importance of being seen, or the price (of which I never asked for) when I plainly explained I wanted to be seen the following day.\r I was told when I arrived for the appointment that I could be seen as an emergency, and it would cost double! Plus when I asked if the supplies and tests were more expensive, like in a real emergency room, they tried to explained to me that "Well, this is a real emergency room." I've never gone to my doctor for being sick and had them charge me emergency room fees. \r I took my cat to anothe more

Great Place! 4/10/2010

Outstanding!!!! We brought our 6 week old guinea pigs in to be seen for an eye infection and saw the Exotic Pet Vet Dr. Anthony. He was wonderful! So kind and very skilled. We were very impressed with this facility and the folks working there. I would highly recommend this practice! more

The best vet yet 3/26/2010

Dr. Dallatore is a wonderful vet, very caring and calming to our dogs who love him. Before our oldest dog died Dr. Anthony took the time to look at his eyes in spite of knowing that he would probably need to be euthanized. We still take our other 2 dogs to him and only him. He takes the time to explain whatever needs to be done. I can't recommend him highly enough. It's just too bad that he works at such a mercenary company. more

Highest Costs, Lowest Ethics! 3/25/2010

This corporate merchant may not be the caring, ethical Vet, but a money making machine. -this is my personal opinion formed from from a recent experience.\r Imagine- A Pet owner with a sick cat went to Windcrest to buy antibiotics. They immediately confiscated his Pet and held it hostage, telling the owner he had to give them $1500. dollars or they "ethically" would not release the cat to him, although no work had been performed. They wanted a large sum of Money and, for over an hour, they insisted they would not treat or release the cat until they got it. Finally, they agreed to release the cat for ONLY $500. dollars, but just as they got "their" money, it was returned in a box, DEAD! Their "ethical" care was for the Money!\r This corporate merchant makes every pretense of being a "hospital" and Pet owners are bullied over their heads into debt over "necessary"(?) super tests. The owners are not treated with any compassion for their budget, because of this merchant's greed! more

Care more about money than animals 1/21/2010

I was very displeased with my experience at Windcrest animal hospital. In August of 2008, I took my dog there for emergency care after he had been struck by a car. Unfortunately, my dog had to be put down. The people there were very insensitive to the fact that I was experiencing tremendous grief, and immediately began asking questions regarding payment, after telling me that my dog would be put down. I would not reccommend this location to any pet owner. more

Criminal 1/10/2010

After calling around to several animal hospitals in the state to see who had a vet to care for a very sick guinea pig, Windcrest was the only one who said they could provide. After waiting approx. 45 min we were finally able to see the vet who suggested $1,200 in xrays, blood draws, overnight care, etc despite offering no definitive diagnosis. After questioning the vet, she says "I am not an exotics specialist." I came to Windcrest specifically because they were the only vet who claimed they had a doctor present who specialized in exotic mammals. I walked out after paying 220 for visit, antibiotics, and NO diagnosis. Needless to say, I will not be taking my guinea pig back to such con artists. more

Windcrest Animal Hospital is TERRIBLE!!!!! 1/1/2010

Windcrest Animal Hospital is the worst kind of facility. They claim that they are fit to care for small animal patients such as rabbits, etc., when truly they only have one doctor fit for these types of patients. When you have a small animal with an emergency situation and you ask them if they have a doctor there they say they do even if they don't. They seem to think that a doctor with no experience with small animals can just call the doctor with experience and that it will suffice. Also, instead of recommending you to somewhere else, these money-hungry doctors make you feel like your pet is okay. Needless to say, I made the mistAke of taking a sick rabbit to them and their ignorance and selfishness contributed to her death. If you have a rabbit: BEWARE!!! I will NEVER take my animals there again! more
