sweet little lunch spot 11/16/2008

I'm vegetarian so this was a fun little discovery. I came here with a friend during lunch and food was good. I wasn't amazed by it so I'm not dying to return for their dinner menu but it was good for lunch. It's a bit on the pricier side if you're used to spending less the $9 on your lunch but it's a nice treat once in a while. Service was prompt also, no complaints about that. Pros: good quality food more

Non inspiring veggie food 11/4/2008

I don't know why everyone is giving 4 to 5 stars for this restaurant. The food is ok, non-inspiring, if sometimes a bit too greasy. I had the seitan in the brown sauce, deep fried mushrooms, and some soy cutlets also in the same brown sauce. Overall, quite a big disapointment after reading the reviews and going. In my opinion, I could have gotten much better Chinese vegetarian food at Buddha Bodai in China Town. Pros: cheap, MSG goodness, very spicy & salty Cons: dirty, no service, food uninspiring more

Best Pan-Asian Vegan Vegetarian Restaurant in NYC 5/29/2008

The food is awesome & amazing. Highly recommanded. Especailly the drinks! Homemake Gingerale! Who would ever thought of a homemake drinks! The food sizes portion were large enough to share, and everything ordered was delicious. Then the music was way too loud. The whole time I could barely hear my friend. Strongly recommanded! Pros: Food was excellent! Cons: Music is way too loud! more

WORST service in ALL of NYC 4/20/2008

Wild Ginger has been one of my favorite places to order from for the past 2 years. Unfortunately, the service has seriously deteriorated. The past 3 times I've ordered I received the incorrect items and am FALSELY promised a credit. On the last occasion more money was even charged after paying an additional amount for the wrong menu item. At this point I had to throw away the menus. Cons: horrendous more

Totally awesome! 2/13/2008

I so love this place. I go to the Wild Ginger on Broome for lunch a lot: it is affordable- you get an entire meal for a good price- it's very tasty- interesting- flavorful- vegetarian- healthy- and they actually bring the food pretty quickly. amazing teas, very friendly staff. I also order take-out very often and that too is very quick. The decor of the place is very beautiful and a nice relaxing place in the middle of the hectic crazy outside. Pros: Very tasy, affordable, lovely decor, quick... Cons: can't think of any! more

Surprising combinations, wonderful service 5/26/2007

A sake mojito? Strange I know, but it proved lovely. The rest of the meal was equally exotic -- and lovely. I had the mango/seitan stir fry, a zestful mingling of flavors. The miso was very flavorful, none of that blah salty stuff you often get. The owner was very nice and the raitan decor was nice. Only cost my girlfriend and I $50. We had a nice chat, which to me says it's romantic! Heartily recommended. Visited late on a Wed, don't know what earlier or weekends are like. Pros: Good and intriguingly prepared food, great service more

Great Vegetarian! 4/20/2007

This was the first restaurant went to when I moved to New York. On stumbled upon the humble restaurant while exploring Little Italy and Noho. What a great discovery! It was a very quiet and dimly lit place, with patrons made up of hipster locals. The menu had lots of options for vegetarians and for those who weren't neccessarily veggie, but wanted healthy options. I had a tofu stirfry (rarely do those taste good) but Wild Ginger made it taste perfect. The price was just right as well. Pros: lovely ambience, food, etc. Cons: nothing? more

The secret is out 2/13/2007

I'm afraid after this posting that I will have to wait long to get in the next time I go. But congrats are due. My one friend is a vegetarian and I stumble on this place and decided to dine with some friends(nonvegan, nonvegetarian) here. We all agree that this place was full of flavor. I love vegetarian food even though I'm not one. But our one guy friend who is a meat lover, was skeptical at first but he LOVED this place. The entree taste like the real thing. The pepper ""steak"" dish was so good. Then there was the general tsao ""chicken"". Are you sure this is not real meat?? WOW awesome. We all agree this is the best we've had in a vegan/vegetarian restaurant. Homemade gingerale was good, but don't get the mango drink, not good at all(actually funny tasting) Service was excellent, so enjoy a vegetarian meal. Pros: oh everything Cons: mango drink taste funny more

Neat Find!! 11/22/2006

As a vegan, trekking through the San Genaro Feast with my non-vegan parents, I was so so so happy to find this gem!!! The decor is quite tranquil. The menu is well-chosen. The food was outstanding, though a few dishes were a bit greasy. I would definitely trek to eat here again! Pros: nice decor, decent mock meats Cons: ditsy waitress, greasy more

Excellent 10/5/2006

tiny jewel in chinatown 7/15/2006

DELICIOUS food. Lovely ambience. This place has everything but soundproof walls -- it's hard to escape the street noise of Little Italy. Curry quite good. Seitan -- black pepper and also teriyaki are delicious. Spinach shumai is surprisingly good. Mango salsa on scallion pancakes also good appetizer options. Eggplant in garlic sauce is ok. If you don't like spicy food, beware-- it has a MAJOR kick. Their ginger drink is awesome, in a gentle and soothing way. \r \r All in all .. this place makes eating vegetarian easy and fun to do.\r Pros: Food, Ambiance Cons: Small place, inexperienced wait staff more

Best Vegetarian Food Ever! 4/18/2006

Went to Wild Ginger for lunch this past weekend and it was quite simply the best vegetarian food I have ever had. In fact, I loved the smoked teriyaki seitan & sugar snap-peas so much, that I had to go back the next day. I was torn with so many delicious-sounding choices, but the sweet & sour sesame soy protein was fantastic - tasted, looked, and had the exact texture of sweet and sour chicken. The lunch specials, served from noon to 4pm, are a real bargain. They range in price from $6 to $8 and include miso soup, steamed pumpkin, brown rice or coconut rice, and a spring roll. The presentation is clean and fresh, and the service was phenomenal. I recommend this restaurant to vegetarians and to non-vegetarians. I can't wait to go back to New York to try something else on the menu!! Pros: food fantastic, service fantastic more

Vegetarian's Dream!!! 3/23/2006

Yummy! Yummy! Wild Ginger is a vegetarian's dream restaurant! Lots of choices!!! General Tsao's ""chicken"" was, by far, the best meal at our table. I highly recommend this restaurant. more

Best ginger ale on the planet 3/5/2006

This restaurant is a true find. The ambience is both cozy and incredibly unique, with green moss on the exposed brick walls and window decorations made with exotic foods. The food was very fresh and high in flavor. The highlight was the hand made ginger ale, which was worth a return trip for the drink alone. Just the right balance of sweetness with a ginger kick. more

GREAT! 12/31/2005

Food is creative, and pleasing to the eyes and to the palate. AND its all vegan! ...even got WOW's from non veg dining partners. Pros: inexpensive, relaxed atmosphere, attentive service more

An Oasis in the City 12/29/2005

Last night I visited Wild Ginger in person after ordering delivery for the last few months. Although I love eating at home (Spinach Rolls with Ponzu go great with Desperate Housewives), I've discovered it's worth a 10 minute walk from my place for the ambiance alone! My boyfriend is vegetarian and I am decidedly not, and after years of dating, I can honestly say that Wild Ginger is the ONLY place we've ever eaten where neither of us feels as though we're making a compromise. The delicious, artfully prepared food is consistently excellent and dare I say, addictive, and the only time I ever remember it's healthy is when I'd rather chide myself for eating too much! Everything on the menu is sublime, and I happily take friends who are carnivores, vegan, or anything in-between there knowing that they'll leave with a new favorite. Best of all, it's a bargain! Pros: Food, Ambiance, Service more

Awesome New Veggie Place! 12/27/2005

This cozy, but not cramped, little Pan-Asian Vegetarian restaurant is a real find. It's almost completely vegan, with a knowledgable staff ready to answer any questions and make suggestions. Some of the menu choices are familiar (scallion pancakes, shu mai), while others are new twists on old favorites (glazed seitan over sugar snap peas with coconut rice--wow!). Everything I've tried so far has been delicious. The two flavors of soy ice cream (vanilla-ginger and black sesame) are out of this world. I've gone several times, both with friends and in large groups, and I'm never disappointed. When you get tired of pizza & pasta in Little Italy, head over to Wild Ginger! Pros: Fabulous food, Attentive service, Charming atmosphere more
