September 29, 2009. While in the store I asked one of the employees why they were so low baby food products, he told me that they had just gone through inventory the day before and that all the items were low since they did not want to scan more items than necessary. I purchased from whatever stock they had and went home. I opened up one of the items to warm it up to feed my baby and smelled something funny. I immediately checked box and expiration dates on it and sure enough it was expired (not just one or two days, but by over 3 months (expired on Jun 24, 2009). I checked the remaining products and many of them were expired. I was shocked as I thought Whole Foods markets would do a better job at their quality control. What really struck me as odd was that the employee had told me they had just conducted inventory the day before. I'm guessing that they found some stock in the back storage and decided to throw it up on the shelves without looking or checking the expiration. I called the store and spoke with a manager named Tara, who offered no apology and said that she went and checked the rest of the stock on the shelves and sure enough all of them were expired which I'm happy she pulled off and quarantined. All she went on to say was she would be happy to refund me my money once I returned the food back to the store. I told her that the money was not the issue here, but the way Whole Foods handled this product. I told her that I hope she would find a way to contact other customers who had purchased these products in the past 3 months since they had expired to tell them to check their expiration, but all she said was I can only give you your money back once you bring the products back. Very unsatisfied customer.
