Fran's the best! 3/2/2012

Fran at Westway couldn't be more phenomenal! The whole staff is great and, for midtowners, an entire eye checkup and picking out new frames takes less than a lunch break. But really the highlight, every time, if fabulous Fran! more

Customer Service Keeps Me Loyal? 5/11/2010

I have been a customer of Westway Vision for several years now and have purchased 4 pairs of glasses over the years. I find the entire staff to be very competent and the customer service is superb! I hope the doctor knows what an asset he has in Fran. She rocks! \r \r more

Great exam Takes time to get lenses 3/8/2010

I am unemployed I had to really do my homework for the BEST price and deal.\r I called ALL the BIG companies like Cohen's , Pearle, Lenscrafters. They ALL charged ALOT more with no deals or specials. \r I got an exam and (2) 6packs of lenses fpr 99.00\r Anywhere within 3 miles of zip 10019 charged more for just the exam. The drawback is make sure you have enogh supplies to last a week after you place an order...and then you can save without the sweat..... Pros: Exam was top notch Dr. caring Cons: Popular contact lenses not in stock more

Careless optometrist, wrong prescription, overpriced frames 2/9/2010

I got a contact lens prescription at Westway Vision in 2009. They sent lenses they apparently shipped in from Korea. Within a week of wearing these new lenses that Westway ordered, My vision began to deteriorate within a week. If I don't wear contacts or glasses, my vision uncorrected is worse then before I made the bad decision of going to Westway, I went back and they suggested that something was wrong on my end. Began to say things like ""do you have dry eyes"" ""do you sleep with lenses on"", and finally, ""The Doctor is on vacation"". I came back in a week and the optometrist repeated the same excuses. When I asked him for a re-exam just in case he took wrong readings last time, he blew up and said he'll have to charge me a full examination fee. Eventually I ended up at Weill Cornell hospital in NYC and after three ""extensive"" visits, they gave me a prescription that was much different from Westway's. So, I decided that getting a prescription being out of the way, I can give Westway one more chance and walked in to their store to get my new eyeglasses made. I already had a set of frames, all I needed was new lenses. First, they weren't sure what kind of coating my existing lenses (2 years old) had. The assistant said ""I don't think this is Avance"", but the optometrist jumped in saying ""no, I think it is Avance"". They now commenced to give me upgrades to my lenses, $130 for avance, and $205 for the lenses. My budget came to $335. I was not convinced the whole time, but decided to give them a go ahead, and a $60 deposit. When I asked for a receipt, he said he'll give me when I get the glasses. I walked out feeling weird about the whole experience. Why did I trust them in the first place? Walking through the streets, I hit another shop on 53rd street and told them about my prescription and how much they will charge. They gave me a bill of $265 (with Avance). Compare that with Westway's $335! Its a mistake if you notice subtle issues to go to Westway Vision. Pros: for my experience. none Cons: bait 'n switch, sells counterfeit frames at brand name price more

5 Stars for Westway Vision! 1/6/2010

I have been a Westway patient for many many years. \r As my life changes, job locations etc, Westway is the consistant factor. Having ready access to exams, corrective lenses at a fair price - Westway is always ready for my next airline job layover.\r Dr Tanzil keeps careful record of my vision changes and has worked with me on many occasions to find recent products suited for my needs, Fran is just the best optician ever and helped me find extra slim line lenses for reading those fine print details.. \r Flying a jet or at my astronomy telescope - I see maximum stars (ratings) for the great folks at Westway!! Pros: Professional, Reliable, Affordable Cons: zero more

Would not go back 8/24/2009

After reading great reviews on Citysearch, I decided to give it a try at Westway Vision since I am new in town. The optometrist was not patient and made me feel like an idiot when I asked him more detailed questions. I also felt that he was only there to make money. I really question his ethics as a doctor. more

Good on the west side 9/27/2008

Consistently good service and interesting frame selection. I would recommend for first-time users of contact lenses as well. more

I recently moved to NY and needed to find an optometrist after getting a really bad eye infection, I also needed new glasses and contact lenses, so I started to do some research on Citysearch to help me find a place. The majority of the places I called were overpriced and basically just trying to squeeze money out of their customers by charging for an eye exam separately from a contact lens fitting and also requiring follow-up appointments due to the infection I thought I had. So after making several calls and hearing the exorbitant amount of money I would have to pay, I began to get really frustrated until I started reading about Westway. They had great reviews on Citysearch so I called to find out more information. Fran, the optician answered and was extremely sweet, caring and polite. Dr Tanzil, the optometrist was also really great. They also had affordable packages, I ended up paying $99 for an exam (both contact lens fitting and general exam) plus 2 boxes of contact lenses. I also got a free pair of lenses to wear for two weeks as a trial before placing an order. This was by far the most affordable place I had found with the nicest people. I went in the same day, got the exam, contacts and glasses all at the same place. Go to Westway you definitely won't regret it!!! I got some really cute leopard print frames too (not in a tacky way), so they also have great style for a great price!! Pros: great service, friendly people, great choices more

fabulous customer service in store, but when are they open and what's up with the phone? 8/16/2008

when you are in the store, the doctors here are patient, caring, and extremely thorough. i have had nothing but excellent service from them face to face, but getting a call returned was difficult when i first started going there and the outgoing message is atrocious which is what brings my review down two stars. I love especially how the in case of emergency number and alternative office name listed on the outgoing message are both completely indecipherable and have been that way since they opened. i can't find their office hours or days posted anywhere, they are certainly not mentioned as far as i can tell on aforementioned horrendous answering, this week i will be making an appt. with the old eye doctor who i don't like as much and isn't as convenient but at least i know when he's open and i can tell what his recording is saying. Pros: attentive office staff when you see them in person Cons: store hours not listed, emergency contact info. indecipherable more

really great service 11/10/2007

agree with all the reviews. the people who work here are extremely nice and helpful, always remember you and greet you warmly, and the doctor is very professional and thorough. They also have great deals, and a very well-edited selection of glasses. I highly recommend going here.\r \r by the way, they moved to tenth avenue between 51st and 52nd. the phone number is the same. Pros: Friendly employees, good glasses selection, thorough doctor more

The best optometrist and eye care establishment on the West Side! 3/23/2007

I've been a customer of this business for about ten years. I followed the optometrist there from a previous site. The entire staff is professional, courteous, and friendly. After you go there once, you are treated like an old friend. The customer always comes first here.\r \r Dr. Henry Tanzil , is a skilled, professional optometrist. I am a medical practitioner, and am very careful in selecting medical care for myself. Though I live over two miles away, I won't go anywhere else for my eye care needs. It is always a pleasure to visit Westway Vision. I can't compliment them enough. Pros: Friendly, competent, professional service. The customer comes first at this establishment! more

Friendly atmosphere, good OD & great prices 3/2/2007

I went after reading the reviews here and having a few bad experiences. I received a thorough exam with the prices discussed up front. Warm, friendly staff & smart, quick Doctor. Prices most competitive I've seen. I highly recommend Westway. Pros: Service, prices, atmosphere Cons: None. more

Excellent service 11/17/2006

I must second the previous review. I've never had such a positive experience in getting new eyeglasses. Professional, courteous, and efficient. No attempt to hard-sell you into buying all the expensive bells & whistles. Can't recommend them highly enough. more

Super nice staff - great selection of stylish frames 10/1/2006

I have to recommend this neighborhood shop with all my conviction. The staff is welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and never in a rush. You can try on 60 different frames, agonizing over which one to pick (it's that hard here - they have such a great selection) and they will never make you feel silly or like you're bothering them. And they'll give you excellent advice about which frames suit you best. Plus, when you go back? They'll remember your name and treat you like an old friend. Always a pleasure to go to Westway Vision. Pros: A 100% fantastic place to get all your eyecare / eyewear needs attended to. Cons: They close at 6PM during the week ... it would be nice if they were open a bit later. more
