Boring selection and inflated prices 12/9/2012

The best thing that Westville Kosher had going for it is that is the only kosher butcher in New Haven. The selection is boring- almost never veal or lamb, the steak selection is poor and they don't do any mixed chopped meat selections. As the only butcher in town they don't benefit from competition so the prices are higher than at kosher markets in other parts of Connecticut. I also dont always find it to be clean. When I have the time I drive to West Hartford or NY instead. more

If you love quality, this is the place for you. I have been going here for years. It is a family owned Kosher market and the husband and wife who run it are incredibly helpful, thoughtful, and reliable. And it's not just the meat-- their prepared foods are the best I've ever had. Try the eggplant salad! I admit, It may not look like much from the outside, but the quality is in the food and the service. more

Where to get Kosher Meat 7/18/2005

The super stop and shop in Westville sells kosher meat, which is nice, but if it's at all convenient, it's worth your while to stop at the Westville Kosher Meat Market instead. The prices are a little better, the variety is much greater (veal, bison, duck and other goodies instead of just beef or chicken), and the owner is a sweetheart. Introduce yourself once and she'll remember you forever. (And, if you're single, may possible try to set you up) Also sells deli stuffs and Israeli imports, and can handle small catering projects. Incidentally, if you don't keep kosher, consider buying kosher meat anyway. It's more expensive, but it guarantees humane slaughter, vegetarian diets, and better all around treatment of cows. more
