Do not shop here! 3/19/2012

I have been working at Wal-Mart for about a year and a half, as they were the first place that I was able to find that was willing to hire a disabled Navy veteran. The last year and a half has been hell. I have limitations on how much I can carry due to injuries sustained during my time in the Navy. I even have written orders as to how much I can carry, and for how long I can be on my feet. Does the management at Wal-Mart care? In my opinion, no. I have been reprimanded for refusing to exceed my doctors orders, and I have even had appointments at the VA canceled because Wal-Mart will not let me have days off to go to scheduled doctors appointments. I also have chronic pain issues that I have been on medications for since the accident back in 2008 that led to my current medical status. I have been told by management that I can't take most of the painkillers that I have been prescribed by the VA without getting fired, so I have had to suffer because of that. When a long deferred (by Wal-Mart) appointment at the VA found tumors, I was afraid to tell management about them, despite needing to have surgery to remove the tumors. When I told the personnel manager about the tumors, she told me that ""testicular tumors are no big deal"". Later on I found her telling others about my situation, and there were later on several hurtful comments directed at me in front of my coworkers, customers, and even my wife. When I scheduled a leave of absence, my manager made claims that I was ""only trying to get out of work"". I have received calls after the surgery, asking why I was not at work, despite having given them ample notice of my situation. So far Wal-Mart's ""Open Door"" policy is not working at all to resolve the problems with the management here. Considering the problems that myself and others have had with management denying breaks, and trying to make us work during lunch breaks, and the reluctance of the higher-ups to fix those issues, in my opinion, Wal-Mart just does not care about the working person. more
