Yep, another post about Harley (kind of). The past few months she's been sick and Volunteer Vet. Clinic has been relentless in getting her better. The entire staff has been so caring and very thorough. Richard (my husband) has been bringing pets there for years and I can honestly say we will never go anywhere else. \r Harley was diagnosed with pancreatitis and a possible brain tumor late last year. They have called other specialists for options and treatments, provided us with homemade low-fat (and inexpensive) food options. They are truly amazing!\r Thank you so much for taking care of our baby girl!\r xo more

My 24 pounds mutt had a large gash on her back that needed taken care off. Dr. Dixon took a look at it and thinks that it was the work of another dog even though I told him that my injured dog and my other dog get along very well (I've had them both for 4 years now). The injured marks on my wounded dog doesn't even look like puncture wounds once her coat around that area was shaved off. He gave me two options for treatment. Option 1 was to leave it alone, put antibiotic cream on her and put her on antibiotics and an NSAID (~$160 total). Option 2 was to do surgery on her and put a drain in her (~$480 total). I chose option 1 minus the antibiotic and NSAID. I wanted him to RX something more affordable that I can just get at a local pharmacy. So, Dr. Dixon just left my poor dog as she was (granted they did shave the area around the wound more than I did) and sent me off with the antibiotic cream I chose I purchase and the bill of $87. It was a very reasonable bill except that he did nothing. The clinic didn't even at least put some antibiotic ointment on her open wound or a bandage on it when I left. Afterwards, I called the pharmacy to see if my dog's antibiotics are ready and it turns outs that the medicine was going to be ~$80 something, which is almost twice as much as what was being charged at the animal clinic! As somebody with a medical background, Dr. Dixon's lack of empathy to my dog and his inability to put a bandage on an open wound makes me worry to think that there is someone like him out there ""taking care"" of animals. more

I had a emergency with a baby hedgehog Sept 22,2012 Saturday I went in to the clinic and Dixon was not there , my hedgehog possibly had a broken leg due to mom carrying it around , I was told to come back Monday, Sunday Came and I checked in on baby and to my horror Mom bit his leg off , I cleaned it up and Monday morning went into the clinic , I arrived at 11:40 and was told Dixon was on lunch and was told to come back at 1:30 I said this was a emergency I need to see him now , Receptionist said sorry come back at 1:30 I came back at 1:30 and I asked if I could write a check I was told no with out two phone # on check I could not write a check , and they refused to look at the baby hedgehog with no leg, I asked what it would cost to euthinze the baby and they told me 70 something I didn't have enough money for that , I said ok I will take it home , with tears runny down my face I went to my car and buckled my daughter and a lady came out and said she talked to dixon and he said he would euthinze the baby for free, I said no i will take my animals elsewhere , I asked the lady if you had a broken leg and went to the hospital would they refuse service , she said no because the person has health insurance more

The BEST Veterinary Clinic 4/1/2010

I have been using Vol Vet for over 15 years and my mom has been using them longer than I. I can't say enough good things about them; they are amazingly wonderful! The whole staff is friendy and caring and there are plenty of experieced vets & techs on staff. I have many great stories of experience with Vol Vet - too many to list here. But I will say, that I think so much of the folks at Vol Vet that despite moving out of H'ville, I still make the 45 minute - one way drive back to thier clinic when it's time for one of my babies to have a check up or if they are feeling bad. It is so totally worth the time and drive. I trust their knowledge; I love them and my animals love them too! Pros: Expertise, Friendliness, Caring Cons: None that I know more

Care of my baby~ 5/12/2008

I would like to commend the staff at Volunteer Vet. My puppy, since day one of his little life, has allergies. Vol. Vet personnel worked with me diligently to see to it that my boy was taken care of. Everytime my puppy was taken to see one of the Vet's, the staff treated him with lots of hugs and love. We virtually tried every kind of medication to help with the allergies. Now, he is eating food and taking very little medication that is helping to deal with his allergies and he is doing 95% better. It took awhile to find the right combination of medication and food to help get puppy well. His coat looks better. His compulsive licking is minimal and he just feels better overall. He is a much happier little boy. People at Vol. Vet are wonderful, and you know who you are! more

Great customer Service 5/6/2008

I have been using Vol Vet for only a couple months now. I have to say that they are the best Vet I have ever been to. Not only did they treat my pet with respect but they acted as if he was real member of the family and he is. The receptionist were loving and warm and greeted me right when I walked through the door. The techs were amazing with little sassy too. I love my experience and I would recommend them to anyone! Pros: The whole staff is amazing! Cons: Cant think of one. more

Volunteer Veterinary Clinic- Dr. Fields is the best vet I have ever had 3/20/2008

Dr. Allison Fields is the kindest vet I have ever met. Instead of scaring your dog by putting him on the table- she got down on the floor with my dog to gain his trust. Best vet I have ever had! I live in Franklin and would drive even further to keep her as my vet. Pros: Best vet I have ever had Cons: Distance from me more

I like this business because it is located near my home and has warm and professional staff. The vet that we use is somewhat young but is very knowledgeable and "down home". He is quite easy to talk with and never seems in a hurry. He takes the time to thoroughly examine our pets and play with them also. They are not especially expensive unless you happen to get a particular vet who works there and tries to sell you everything under the sun. The front desk folks are helpful and the atmosphere is good. PROS: Proximity, hometown business, knowledgeable, caring staff CONS: One vet who we no longer use who pushes products and service. more
