dirty old dive 9/5/2010

its a dive, a great place, inexpensive drinks, the best jukebox in town, thick smoke, darts and foosball. used to be the ticket box office for the grand ole opry when it was housed at the belcourt. gay bar? no. although it does get a little cramped when vandy and belmont are in session.. more

Best GAY Bar 5/18/2008

Best little GAY Bar in Nashville!!! Lots of young college boys and girls that look like boys. Vandy & Belmont are right there. Bar staff very open so don't be a breeder! Lots of smoke in the place makes it hard to stay very long, but there is lots of better smoke in the theater parking lot. Have a great time but don't forget to bag your clothes when you get home. more

Where the Locals Crawl 4/27/2007

Smoky, Loud, Cheap Beer, Excellent Juke, Nice Barkeeps, Great Decor, what else could you want from a dive bar? The walls are covered with photos of the patrons over the past god-knows-how-many years. There's pictures from a year ago, and ones with people in mutton chops. If you want to meet natives, you better stop here. Pros: Oh try the Po'Boy, it'll make you weep with joy. Best people you'll meet in Nashville. Cons: smoky more

Cool local bar 1/3/2007

If you can stand the smoke, this is one of the best dive bars to hang out. Great bartenders, great jukebox, and CHEAP beer. A real bar to drink a cheap pitcher and meet some cool people. Bring your darts and enjoy the quotes and graffiti all over the bathroom. Pros: Great service & price Cons: smells like an ashtray more

This Place is Real. 7/11/2003

I am a Villager "Regular". It's my favorite pub. However, since moving to the country (Way Out In The Country) I don't get to stop by as often as I'd like. Only because I still have business and errands to run in Nashville, I stop in when I can to say, "Hi!" My excuse is, "Well, ya know, I want to wait on Rush Hour traffic to clear up before heading out of town." (Nevermind that I always time it perfectly!) Anyway, the absolute real reason I stop by The Villager is for an ever so brief hour of conversation with the locals, an ice cold drink, an awesome sandwich, and a fun game of darts. For me, The Villager Tavern is a "Real Bar." Real People, Real Cool, Real Everything, really. Pros: Not a Tourist Trap, Great Location, Best Juke Box Cons: Crowded Weekends, Line to Restroom, No Dart Board Avail more

The Band, Beer and Po Boys 3/6/2003

Covered with the distinctive scent of The Villager, I head home after a night of cheap beer, great music (including The Band), good darts and the best damn Po Boys around. A smile creeps across my face as I weave my way down 21st because I know I'll be back there tommorrow to see Jeff, HB, MWT and the rest of the boys. I'm still waiting for my picture to be on the wall though. Pros: Darts, Eats, Jukebox Cons: 2:30am close more

to leave just cut the smoke with a knife 11/4/2002

excelent bar, however if you don't smoke it really hurts. Even smokers I know find this bar hard to breath in. The atmosphere is palpable would be another way to put it. Love the place though. Pros: the walls, entertainment, darts Cons: smoke, smoke, smoke more

Best crowd and coldest beer! 9/24/2002

The Villager Tavern is a staple in the neighborhood. It's one of the few true neighborhood bars in this city. It attracts such an eclectic, lively mix of patrons that it's always an interesting and enjoyable experience be it a crowded weekend night or a Wednesday afternoon. And THE place to play some darts! more

  • In Short
When you belly up to the bar at the Villager, it better be with a beer gut because bartender Henry Piarrot--who operates the bar with his wife Ann--only sells suds. And when...
