Next time, Taco Bell! 10/18/2008

I went to the Village Tavern on the suggestion of a friend. I won't listen to that friend anymore! After walking in the door and taking in the nice atmosphere, I was all set to be impressed. While walking to our table, we were struck with the overwhelming stench of decay. So much for the atmosphere. Somebody light a candle! OK, whatever, let's see what's on the menu for a vegetarian like myself. Now, I expect a lesser selection in an Americana restaurant emphasizing steak and burgers than in other places, but I have never seen anything this dismal. Even the soups and salads on the menu failed to satisfy that easy requirement. Is it so hard to offer a bowl of lettuce without a barnyard thrown on top? So, I ordered a flatbread and my fiance ordered a pizza, the only two options, or should I say option? After being served our meals, apparently Village Tavern thinks that the only difference between a pizza and a flatbread is the shape. They were both burnt and tasteless to boot. C'mon! Who can't even get a pizza right? Food aside, at least our waiter was nice. Nice and creepy. There's a fine line that all good waiters need to walk. Be attentive, but not too attentive. Don't stare and breathe down our necks the entire time. Don't reach across the entire table to clear a single straw wrapper. Refill drinks when they are getting low, not after every sip. This isn't a China Buffet! I felt bad leaving the majority of my meal behind, so I got it boxed. I just hope I-4 enjoyed my leftovers! Terrible experience. Never again. Ever. Pros: Looks nice Cons: Everything else more

Delicious food and a superb experience 9/15/2008

My roommate and I went to Village Tavern for the Orlando Magical Dining experience (a pre-set dinner menu for $29 a person during the month of September). We first walked in and were initially surprised at how big the dining room was. The ambience was gorgeous in deep wood colors and modern lighting and decorative accents. The bar and dining room are separate and the kitchen was visible (and pristine) from the dining room, which we liked. Our server was delightful and the food was indescribable. For appetizers, my roommate had the bacon wrapped scallops (which were huge and perfectly cooked) and I had the crab cake (yum). Then I had the 8 oz filet and she had the Grouper Hemmingway. The filet was great quality and the grouper was good, but borderline too salty for me because of the capers. Nonetheless, she was happy with her dish. The filet was very tender and perfectly cooked to my liking. Then for dessert, my roommate had the banana crepes, which were fantastic and uniquely done. They weren't traditional crepes, in that the actual crepe was very thin and wrapped around delicious banana ice cream. I had the cheesecake with chocolate and raspberry sauce, which was the equivalent of 4 servings. It was so creamy and the perfect end to a wonderful, rich meal. Overall, the presentation was excellent, the food was rich and flavorful (but not too filling), the staff was friendly, the ambience was beautiful, and we will be returning very soon! We left as two extremely happy girls! Pros: Amazing food, beautiful dining room, and friendly staff Cons: That we had to leave! more

Restaurant 5/20/2008

Very nice atmosphere; however, the food is terrible. We ordered the blackened chicken alfredo pasta, shrimp risotto, grilled chicken with rice and broccoli and the braised short rib dinners. All of the meals were very bland. The chicken in all of the meals was over cooked and very chewing. They were out of mash potatoes which I hear are very good. The bread is given upon request, which we ordered. There were 4 people at our table and they only brought us 3 rolls. Our server was below average and it took a long time to get our food. Maybe it was just a bad night but I won't be returning to this establishment. more

Great food and stellar service a must try. 2/29/2008

My wife and i decided to try Village Tavern, the new restaurant near the mall at millenia last wednesday evening. Not knowing what to expect we were pleasantly suprised. We sat at the bar and orderd two glasses of wine and we were informed that it was"" wine down wednesday"" and our glasses were half price. To wine lovers like us this alone would have been enough to keep us there. We had a couple of appetizers, the bacon wrapped scallops and the crab cake, both were fantstic. The attmosphere was great, they had live music that was entertaining ,but not intrussive or too loud. From the food to the wine and the service everything was perfect. We highly recomend Village Tavern to anyone looking for something new and different in orlando. Pros: Friendly genuine service,Food Cons: None that we found more
