I have read a few reviews and I understand the mixed reactions of the dress shopping experience here. I had fortunately found my dress at another shop (store in FV) but was lookin...

Worst Experience of Planning My Wedding 7/19/2011

I paid in full for a wedding dress and all alterations, including the bustle and replacing the waistband in October. I was promised that my wedding dress would arrive by February. I also purchased my bridesmaids dresses through VR. In February I accepted a job in another state. My dress hadn't arrived yet; when I finally got a phone call in return, I heard all sorts of reasons as to why it was late. The owner even had the gall to question why I moved to California - because clearly I should have turned down a full-time dream job offer in order to take care of my wedding. On top of that, the sales staff was extremely rude to my bridesmaids - one even told my maid of honor "We don't deal with you, we only talk to the bride". It took my mom calling them multiple times just to find out what was going on with the dresses. I ended up having to fly in to get my dress fitted (since I had already paid for all the alterations). The staff was icy at best - they were clearly annoyed that I was taking up valuable sales time. When it came time to discuss the bustle and waistband, I was told that we hadn't paid for them, and was charged an extra $230. At that point I was so frustrated and upset that I just paid so that I could leave the store. I finally got my dress in California and tried it on, only to discover that the alterations had been done incorrectly. The top of my strapless dress was so tight that I could barely breathe - and unfortunately my only options were to lose a rib or have the dress altered again. I also found straight pens still in the hem of my dress - so they didn't even DO the alterations! I called the store and after several phone calls I was finally refunded the extra $230 that I had paid. The final straw was that they messed up my bridesmaids dresses; each of the girls ended up spending OVER $60 on alterations and my little sister got a dress that was 2 sizes too small for her. We had to scramble to find a dress for her to wear - and VR refused to help us in any way and didn't return our calls more

mad bride 7/19/2010

if i could give a negative star i would! the desses are nice, but the manager acted as though she was doing me a favor. the alterations department didn't speak enough english to understand the hem wasn't straight. I had to go in multiple times and each time was worse than the next. run far away! more

Bridal Gown Boutique 2/17/2006

Victorian Rose Bridal Boutique is located in Raleigh's downtown area. From the moment you step in the door, the staff here will treat you like a Queen. Bring your mother and bridal attendants too. They also offer dresses for your bride's maids and the mother of the bride. Appointments are strongly recommended. If you want to go on a Saturday, be prepared to schedule several weeks in advance. The shop is closed Sundays. more

I love this shop! 12/11/2005

I guess the other reviewers aren't familiar with shabby chic. ;) Sure, the carpet isn't in perfect condition and the lighting is a little dim, but Victorian Rose is full of personality. The staff is incredibly helpful and the dresses are incredible. I didn't end up getting my dress from them (they didn't carry the designer), but they were so incredible I almost bought my second fav dress just to be able to work with them. A class act. more

Beautiful gowns, high prices 11/17/2005

This store offers excellent customer service and a beautiful selection of wedding gowns and accessories. Many of their gowns are designer, so the prices are a bit higher than in many other shops. The cheapest gown I saw was around $800, so this isn't the place to go if you are on a budget. They carry a nice selection of shoes, tiaras, bridesmaid dresses, and jewelry. The prices on these items are also a bit higher, with most shoes being over $100 and many tiaras approaching $150-$200. Their new location is much nicer than their old one, with more room to move around. Great if you want a unique dress! more

Not so trendy boutique bridal shop 8/21/2005

I went to this shop several years ago and this is the experience I had: I had been told that this was a great bridal shop and so I expected it to be just that. Not so. I was first put off by the shop itself- it did not look like an upscale boutique style wedding store. The carpet was worn, the dressing rooms were small, even the mirror was worn! Don't get me started about the rest of the decor! Truly, I would have been better off at somewhere like David's Bridal where at least it is well lit and the mirrors are HUGE. When you are spending that kind of money on one dress- you need to be able to see it! Nevertheless, the staff was friendly- but not personable enough to make me a customer. more
