I paid in full for a wedding dress and all alterations, including the bustle and replacing the waistband in October. I was promised that my wedding dress would arrive by February. I also purchased my bridesmaids dresses through VR.
In February I accepted a job in another state. My dress hadn't arrived yet; when I finally got a phone call in return, I heard all sorts of reasons as to why it was late. The owner even had the gall to question why I moved to California - because clearly I should have turned down a full-time dream job offer in order to take care of my wedding. On top of that, the sales staff was extremely rude to my bridesmaids - one even told my maid of honor "We don't deal with you, we only talk to the bride". It took my mom calling them multiple times just to find out what was going on with the dresses.
I ended up having to fly in to get my dress fitted (since I had already paid for all the alterations). The staff was icy at best - they were clearly annoyed that I was taking up valuable sales time. When it came time to discuss the bustle and waistband, I was told that we hadn't paid for them, and was charged an extra $230. At that point I was so frustrated and upset that I just paid so that I could leave the store.
I finally got my dress in California and tried it on, only to discover that the alterations had been done incorrectly. The top of my strapless dress was so tight that I could barely breathe - and unfortunately my only options were to lose a rib or have the dress altered again. I also found straight pens still in the hem of my dress - so they didn't even DO the alterations! I called the store and after several phone calls I was finally refunded the extra $230 that I had paid.
The final straw was that they messed up my bridesmaids dresses; each of the girls ended up spending OVER $60 on alterations and my little sister got a dress that was 2 sizes too small for her. We had to scramble to find a dress for her to wear - and VR refused to help us in any way and didn't return our calls
