Parking is really tough in the area. Street parking fills up fast and most of the side streets is permit only after 6. You can reserve parking ahead of time through SpotHero. ...

Cheap movies good time 5/7/2006

Any place where I can go and shout at the screen, hoot, holler and drink beer is alright by me. Brew and View offers decent prices on double features, alcoholic beverages and a good time. My only beef with the place is that it's a tad sticky and stinky. I guess when you gather a buncha drunk 20somethings, its somewhat hard to keep the floors and bathrooms clean. It's a good place for the artsy punky young crowd. Definitely worth a visit for a guys or funky girls night out. more

Yep, I'm feelin them 3 stars 4/28/2006

I LOVE the idea of the brew & view. Love it. Anything with booze is better. I was also appreciative that they let me in and were courteous when I was late, and the ONE guy working there was conversational and all. But I was on my way running late trying to call the theatre to see if I could still be let in and the guy didn't answer the phone there, which is not good in a business! Also the bathrooms were very strange and felt like walking through a maze to get to, but I like the style of seating, and when I went it wasn't very busy so it was easy to converse and socialize while the movie was playing. Overall, not too bad. more

3 Stars For The Theatre Itself 4/28/2006

The Vic deserves a solid 3 star rating but nothing more. It's not the theater's fault that the parking situation around here stinks. It's not the theater's fault that the neighboorhood is kind of "funky". I also appreciate the interior of this old building(the outside is not all that pretty) and it's history. I have attended a few Rock concerts here and was at the Brew & View once, it's one of the only times I have walked out because the movie was lame; not the fault of this old kinda run down theater. Maybe that should have been my title for this post "it's not the fault..." more

Vic Theatre is grungy but good 3/19/2006

Vic Theatre is hanging on as an old movie theater and concert venue in Lakeview. It is a charming facility, but the interiors are showing signs of wear and tear. The balcony seating is good for concerts if you want to avoid the potential mosh pit of the main floor. The Brew & View is a cool concept where they show two or three movies and sell beer and pizza to create a very informal atmosphere akin to a giant den at a frathouse. more

Seat numbers? We don't need no stinkin' seat numbers! 3/9/2006

I attended a concert at The Vic Theater recently, and to be completely honest, I was less than impressed. Granted, the venue is really cool in that it's an old theater with some great interior architecture and balcony seating. However, that's where it stops for me. The seats in the mezzanine and balcony range from small seats to wooden benches, none of which are well-marked. We spent a solid 10 minutes trying to figure out where we were seated, and staff members at best gave us a vague direction-- "over there." Would I come back? It would all depend on the performer... more

An Intimate Venue 2/18/2006

The Vic is one of Chicago's premier concert venues. For Ticketmaster shows, they have tickets available at the box office for cheaper. Besides hosting touring music groups, the Vic is the home of Brew N' View: three sorta-related movies with beer and bar food served. It makes for a fun evening for pretty cheap. more

Classic old Theatre 12/29/2005

This is your basic classic old theatre space. There is a big stage with a curtain, multiple levels of seating with boxes on the side and balconies above the main seating area. It is a fun place to see a show and every time I have been there the crowd has been rowdy and vocal. Of course it does depend on who is performing. They have all kinds of performances here; rock, comedy, movies, etc. The neighborhood that this space is located in has a lot of hip young people and so most of the shows attract this group. more
