Worse than awful 10/17/2006

I can only echo Helen's comments. The only thing they are "specialists" at is taking your money. My cat had been diabetic for over 7 years and I had her well regulated on insulin with the help of my being able to home test her blood glucose level using a human glucometer. The b/g readings you get at home are more accurate than what you get in the vet's office because stress=higher b/g's and my cat would be terribly stressed out in the vet's office. Unfortunately, so many vets are in the dark when it comes to home testing, and VMS is right there with them. My cat developed some concurrent medical conditions in 2005 and my regular vet sent me to VMS. After 4 months and over $2,000, I was no closer to finding out what was wrong with her than when I first went there. When my cat had a hypoglycemic episode in January of 2006, the advice I received from one of the VMS "specialists" was: "don't home test her for at least the next 48 hours". Incredible - considering it was my ability to home test her that alerted me that her blood/glucose level was rapidly falling and enabled me to get her the help she needed which saved her life! It would be like telling someone who just had a heart attack not to check their blood pressure for the next two months. They have issues with pro-active pet owners and want to call all the shots. I learned something from my experience with them: there are two types of vets in the world - the ones that will work with you as a team in order to keep your pet healthy, and the other kind that will keep you in the dark and give you as little information as possible (or MIS-information) in order to disguise their own incompetence. The she-devils at VMS fall squarely in the latter of the two groups. If you love your cat or dog, DO NOT take them to VMS. more

Awful 3/24/2006

We came to them under the understanding that they were specialists for treating diabetes in dogs. However, they were not cooperative at all, gave us minimal information about what was going on with our dog, and did not support us home testing and monitoring our dog’s blood glucose at home. They also charged over $100 for each glucose curve, refused to give us the results, and when we FINALLY got them to give them up, we found out that they only tested our dog two to three times, when they are supposed to (and charged us) for a full day curve (test at least 6 times.) Our dog unfortunately passed away shortly after diagnosis because of her poorly controlled diabetes. Do your dog and your wallet a favor, go elsewhere. more
