Horrible Vet almost lost my best friend 7/8/2011

In February of 2011 I brought my German Shepard in to see Dr. Baumwell for some problems with bowel movementshe was having. We noticed he was not going to the bathroom properly if at all and felt he needed to have a workup done. The doctor said he just had irritable bowel syndrome and this would resolve with prednisone. After we completed the prednisone my dog BoBo, was still having the issues and the doctor continued to say it would go away. I was unhappy with the answers I was recieving and took BoBo to a different vet, who wound up being a God send. She did blood work (which VCA NEVER did) and a rectal exam which was never done by Dr. Baumwell. BoBo's labs were abnormal and his rectal exam was grossly abnormal. Further testing found that his prostate was so enlarged that it was blocking his intestines and had caused a major infection in BoBo's intestines. It is now July 2011 and we are still treating Bo for his condition. He had to have surgery or he would have died. When we took him to this doctor he weighed about 100 lbs. he is now 74 lbs and struggling to get back to his healthy weight. Due to Bo's strainng to move his bowels he has developed anal fissures (holes) in his rectum that need to be cleaned regularly and have a cream rubbed on twice a day.He is on antibiotics amongst other medications.Bo could have died if not properly treated Bo is my best friend, he is loving, fun, and just full of life. If you value your pet PLEASE find a different vet then this one. They won't even return fees charged to us when their negligence almost killed my dog. more
