This vet clinic is unconscionable. They sent my client's extremely sick dog home when the dog should have been euthanized. The dog died a horrible death. more

I can completely understand why so many negative remarks about this facility.they were very poor service they handed me a inflated estimate for my cat.\r they were not interested in my pet as a patient as soon as they knew I was not going to pay the over the top charges.\r as a whole they were not interested in my pets welfare poor exam no interest shown just wanted to tap my finances. I would never advise using them.\r it was a entirely unpleasant experience for me and my pet.\r I will mention that I called them on they policy of first time visit you get a free exam and they were unhappy to comply the doctor walked into the exam room and said oh a cat walked back out that's your free exam no temp taken only took his weight nothing else what a dump operation.\r I didn't see a love for animals by any means just a chop shop attitude more

I took my cat Peach there last night and would NEVER recommend anyone take their animal here. They are rude and after your money. They had no interest in helping my animal at all. They handed me a $600 quote for the possible testing to see if they could find something to treat, as they had not idea what was wrong. When I refused as I am low income (that's almost what I make take home in a month) they were extremely rude to me. Rolling their eyes and being extremely short with me. Peach got a shot of antibiotics and we went home. I can not wait to take her to the Montivilla Pet Clinic to see her normal vet first thing in the morning. I went home last night and cried. These people are heartless. If I did not care about my animal I would not have spent 4 hours in their clinic last night. NEVER AGAIN!! You can find much better care at another 24 hour emergency pet hospital. This one is a waste of time and money. more

BEWARE!!! Don't go here! 8/23/2012

I brought my dog into this clinic after he collapsed. I was completely caught off guard as my dog has always been healthy. The staff was for the most part very cold. There was an assistant named Danielle who was extemely cold and abrasive. When I asked for an update on how he was doing, she didn't have any answers and she treated me like I was a bother. I ended up having to put my dear friend to sleep, and the staff was wandering around laughing and carring on with their trivial conversations while I had to let him go. DON'T GO HERE!!! They have no compassion! The cost to put him to sleep cost $250 and that didn't include the other stuff they did before I decided to put him to sleep. In a matter of 3 hours I spent $850 and my boy wasn't any better off. more

DO NOT GO HERE!! HORRIBLE VETS!!! HORRIBLE STAFF!! 11/3/2011

DO NOT GO HERE!! HORRIBLE VETS!!! HORRIBLE STAFF!! I took my cat in for an eye problem that had just occurred, and the Vet. was incompetent. I had to point out that the cat's eye was swollen, the vet. didn't even notice even after I listed it as a symptom. My cat's eye did get better, but her pupil was still dilated larger than the other one. I called back because it was concerning. I spoke with the dumbest vet. assistant, Monica, who had horrible communication skills. She told me the swelling was from a drug called Atropine. I called back 2 days later because the eye was still swollen. (it had been 5 days since atropine had been put in her eye) I specifically asked to speak to a Vet. No one called me until 2 days later, and it was daring Monica again. She would not listen to me, could not answer my question, and was very nasty. She kept telling me to come back in, and became totally belligerent because I kept asking her why a pupil would be dilated and that was just to hard of a question. When you have a symptom there are reason for it, and I just wanted to know some causes of why a pupil would dilate. It got to the point that she was yelling at me, and I yelled over her to just have a Dr. call me. Imagine that no one ever called back. Oh and while I was waiting in the waiting room the reception starting talking about how dumb all the people from Sandy, OR are that come in there. She was not even trying to be quiet about it. Totally unprofessional place all the way around. The vet couldn't even see obvious swelling!! more

healthy dog was not given life-saving surgery 6/15/2010

VCA se animal hospital's vet could not perform the life-saving surgery for stomach bloat and my healthy dog died because the inexperienced vet could not give my dog the "standard of care" (surgery)he required. The vet was not a board certified surgeon and should not have been running the night shift of the clinic. The clinic claims that they are a 24 hour emergency clinic by their advertising claims, but the vet that night had only been a vet for 2 years! He could not perform surgery as he was totally inexperienced in surgery matters for stomach bloat surgery. He should not have been there by himself handeling emergency cases... our experience at vca se animal hospital was a total nightmare for us and our dog! He died needlessly at the hands of an inexperienced vet..Consequently our dog died a very painful and horrific death. The vet sedated our dog and silenced his cry for help. We feel this clinic is bogus and they do not care that they killed our dog. No compassion, no expert car more

RAEANN MCGAHUEY PET OWNER 2/14/2010

I have 3 dogs which are like my children. When my pomerianen became sick I took someone advice and went to the banfield vetanery in gresham. That was the biggest mistake I ever made they were rude, had no bedside manner and wonered why I was cring about my pet when she told me without even looking in his mouth he had cancer. Finally I found VCA southeast Portland Animal hospital they were the most caring and had alot compassion not only for the dog but for me as well. I saw DR.HOLMES.She is the best and I will continue to take my animals to her.She aloud me to voice my opinions and then treated teddy acordingly not like banfield wanted,Heck teddy is 11 years old anyway. Her sincerity and caring for me was above and beyoud her duty so thanks ago to all the caring staff and the vet you brightened my day more

Not Recommended 10/27/2009

Judge for yourself. My wife and I needed someone to look over our sick cat while we were gone. We were given this number from out local vet for hospitalized care. Called them up and was told that they do not accept pets for overnight hospitalized care. Instead they gave me the number of another clinic stating that they would be able to take my cat. Well, this clinic did not either. So I called back my vet. My vet was surprised to hear what I was told and that they DEFINITELY hospitalize cats. SOOO I called back and got another person in, she also refused to accept my cat and gave me the number of ANOTHER clinic, which did not hospitalize cats either! Finally, the third time I called, they transferred me to a technician. This individual mentioned that they only accept doctor referrals. So my vet called them for me and they accepted. HOWEVER, they told my vet that an overnight stay would cost between $300 and $500!!! So, needles to say, we did not send our cat here and never will. more

BEWARE OF: Southeast Portland Animal Hospital, 13830 SE Stark St Portland, OR 97233 DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR PETS LIFE!! LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE!! Through the years I have used this vet, mainly for routine checkups. My experience was average but on this day my experience resulted in the DEATH of TWO puppies in the HANDS of these ?professional? vets! On August 12, 2009 my 2 ½ year old Chihuahua was in the middle of labor with her first litter when complications started to happen. The first pup was stuck half way out of the birth canal, I knew she needed emergency attention so my husband called Southeast Portland Animal Hospital for professional advice. He explained the situation, They told us to wait up to 45 minutes before bringing her in. (I didn?t agree but trusted the ?Professionals?). I rushed her to Southeast Portland Animal Hospital, where the pup was removed dead!(sadly expected) There was a 2 hr gap between the two babies. As this time the vets said as I quote t more

As this time the vets said as I quote the medical records…”NO ATTENTION NEEDED AT THIS TIME”! NO alternative methods were suggested or mentioned of! There had been a shift change and a different Dr. came in to help. This Dr.’s insensitivity was very clear and in my heart I became concerned for the safety of Abby and the unborn puppy. After over 15 minutes of her probing, prodding, pushing, pulling, and twisting, the 2nd puppy was ripped out! My Abby had to be held down during this procedure she was in so much pain. After the 2nd puppy was born dead this Dr.’s insensitivity continued. Wonderful Staff 10/3/2008

At a time we thought our dog was dying the staff at VCA were beyond compassionate. They helped us through a hard time and took good care of our "family member." Fortunately our dog pulled through. The experience was easier to handle with the caring staff from VCA. more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE 6/17/2008

Our regular clinic could not see our sick pup immediately, so recommended this place. MISTAKE. First sign of things to come was upon opening the door, we were hit by an almost overwhelming smell of urine and feces. Unacceptable. Was charged $64 for the Unfriendly, extremely cold vet to come in, spend 5 minutes telling me what I already had assumed, and how they weren't able to do anything except possibly give fluids unless I had cash in hand. Was made to feel AWFUL, like a poverty case (which they were unwilling to take) . I went home, called my regular vet (after WASTING MY TIME, GAS AND being wrung thorough the emotional wringer with these people-and then having to pay for the privilege), explained the situation briefly and was seen immediately. I will never, ever, ever take any animal I love to that place again, and strongly suggest the same to anyone else. I recommend Rose City Clinic off Powell Blvd. They are exceptionally clean, always kind, always professional, never 'su more

Always caring 6/11/2008

I lost my cat after a devastating battle with kidney failure and they were always there to help me from teaching me to give him subcutaneous fluids, to helping mix up anything appetizing to get him to eat, to take my desperate middle of the night calls when he was doing poorly, and in the end, to give him that final dosage to let him rest while I held him in my arms as his big heart stopped beating. They took him away after giving me as much time as I needed and called me immediately (w/in a few days) to tell me when he was ready to come home. I've since rescued an abused dog and I did not hesitate to bring her here. They have been just as caring and just as good with her as they had been with my boy. Not the cheapest vet in town but worth it for my peace of mind. more

competent and compassionate 9/25/2007

Took Great Dane, Bill, and Bill's "person" there last night for what turned into emergency surgery for stomach bloat. The Doc and staff were compassionate and exceptionally competent in every aspect of service. Bill's "person" was upset and not tracking well and everyone was patient. These folks handle emergencies all the time so take your pet there if she/he has one since they have the most experience in performing such procedures. If I did not live on Mt. Hood, I'd use them as the regular vet for my 6 animals. I just spoke with the Doc for a report on Bill's condition and she acted like she had all the time in the world. Doc and staff focused on Bill in a caring way. They are exceptional. more

Terrible 4/21/2007

I also had a pet euthanized at this facility and they were heartless from start to finish. They also never sent a card or did anything special regarding my cat. They just held her ashes until I called them to find out why it was taking so long. Nearly a month! Very poor treatment by the office people and poor planning on the entire establishment. I have never not gotten a card when my animal is put down. Even my regular vet sent one once they notified the vet of my cats passing. Heartless is an understatement. Pros: None that I can see Cons: Too many to list more

Heartless reception staff! 4/4/2007

I took my beloved dog ""Ben"" in to this hospital and found that he needed to be euthanized. It was a very sad experience and needless to say very emotional. They told me they would call me when his remains were back from the crematorium. I waited and waited and waited...no call after ten days. I called them to check on the status and to see whether they even had my correct phone number. Yes they did have my correct phone number. Then she put me on hold to return with this comment... ""Yes we have THAT here!"" I asked for clarification (certain that she would not be referring to my pet ""Ben"" as a THAT.) She then went on to refer to him as a THAT two more times. After me asking her again why she would refer to an animal whose name she had right in front of her as a THAT she referred to him as an IT! When asked why I received no notification of Ben's remains being there, she had no answer for me. I feel as if my the end of Bens life was treated very callously by these clueless people. I have had to send many animals to Rainbow Bridge and have never been treated so poorly. I would think twice before using this hospital for any of your animals needs since they seem to think pets are just objects. I think most pet owners (companions) do not agree with that sentiment at all!\r Steer clear!\r RIP ""Ben"" 3-25-2007 more

Takes Care of My Puppy Well 11/6/2005

My favorite thing about this animal clinic is that it is actually a hospital, not just a clinic claiming to be one. They are 24-hours, have emergency care available and a very caring, reliable staff. I have taken my dog to SE Portland Animal Hospital since her first set of shots and have never had a single problem with them. Their facilities are clean, sanitized and peaceful. It is not required that your animal be in a cage, as long as he/she is on a leash. They keep good records of your pets medical history, as well as any notes the vetrinarian may have had about the animal. They offer services such as vaccines, 'fixing' your animal, selling anti-flea products and even pet insurance! PROS: Caring staff, large clean waiting room, quick and efficient CONS: high prices, small parking lot more
