I went to Utopia recently for a friend's birthday brunch and wasn't terribly impressed. To be completely fair, we were a party of 20+ people and clearly overwhelmed the kitchen. It is a very nice space, with wood furniture, exposed brick walls and colorful artwork. It seems like a great neighborhood spot. They offer a good, basic brunch: heavy on the egg dishes, and favorites like french toast. There was something for everyone, including the vegan in our party. I ordered the sausage omelet ($9.95) which came with a side of breakfast potatos. I am not exaggerating when I say I had a small red potato cut into 4 sections. The omelet was normal sized for a 3 egg omelet, but without the addition of toast or anything, I was still hungry after I cleaned my plate. Luckily I was able to fill up on what is clearly the best part of brunch at Utopia--the $1.95 drinks. Not particularly strong, but I've never found that to be especially necessary at brunch. We each ordered about 3 apiece.
In all, I probably won't be returning here again unless I find myself in the U Street area again. I'd recommend if you live nearby, but it's not really worth the trek otherwise.
