On Tuesday June 21st I went to Urban Remains with the intent of purchasing an antique door and antique table legs (or something comparable) to use to construct a custom table. I worked with the manager, ""B"", to pick out a door and four stairway banisters. None of these items had price tags. B quoted me $125 for the door and $150 for the set of four balusters. Once pulled from the shelves and placed on the floor, B and I were both present in front of the balusters while negotiating a final price. We agreed upon $250 total for the five items. B and I went to his office where he provided me with a carbon copy of a hand-written itemized receipt (which I still currently have). The line-items are: ""Door - Total $125"", ""wood balusters - Qty 4 - Total $125"", ""sub-total 250.00"", ""tax 24.37"", and ""Total 274.37"". The receipt has ""All sales are final!"" along with a lengthy terms of agreement on the reverse side. We agreed that I would leave the items at the store, as is common and customary for larger items, until later that week when I could return with a vehicle to collect them. B charged my VISA at that time (for which I also have the receipt). We shook hands and I left the store.
Today (Friday, three days later) after renting an SUV, I called the store to ask them to pull the items as I was on my way when B informed me that the price for the balusters had changed and was now $125 each, not $125 for the set as we'd agreed on verbally and again in my sales receipt, an increase of $375 total. After contesting that the deal was final, B asserted that the owner refused to honor the deal and since the items were still currently in their possession that they would not allow me to collect them. I arrived at the store where B continued refused to honor the terms of the transaction as well as refused to allow me to speak with the owner who he claimed was forcing him to not honor the transaction. These items are one-of-a-kind and I have already had glass parts custom cut to fit their dimensions. I am still in possession of all receipts. I have confirmed with my bank that the transaction was posted and the money deducted from my account. I also have pictures of the items in the store from the day I purchased them. Please take this into consideration before purchasing from Urban Remains.
