Beautiful Spa 8/20/2009

I have been going to Urban off and on for years, it is near my home. It can be up and down therapist wise, but the facility itself is clean and beautiful. The showers are amazing, I always pick the rainshower.I have seen Anne and Tom and enjoyed their massages. I wish the tables were heated however, the rooms are often cold. Pros: Clean, professional Cons: Sometimes too crowded, cold room more

Big disappointment, short massage on top of that 7/19/2008

I scheduled a 90 minute massage. The staff was friendly, the inside looked clean. I could everything in the lobby, which made it hard to fully relax. I asked for a deep tissue massage and kept waiting for the deep part! I thought maybe she was going to loosen me up and then dig in. The massage I got was so weak that the next day I didn't feel any different. I also asked her to focus on some body parts, which never happened. On top of that, the massage was only 82 minutes long! I have been getting massages for years and have never had one shorter than the time it was scheduled for. I do realize that the bad massage was the bad therapist, but the short massage is unacceptable. The entire experience was a big disappointment. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Short massage; rooms are loud more

Horrendous parking can't save the fabulous massage 6/30/2008

I'll admit, the massage therapist I had was fabulous and the facilities were clean. However, the spa lacks sophisticated details of say a Bliss or Burke Williams (for those familar with the West-Coast spa) to warrant a return trip. I went in June of 2008. There are no lockers where you could store your things. You have to lug everything around. You can not add gratuity onto your credit card, annoying to say the least, especially when you find out this policy as you're about to pay. The receptionists are not that accomodating. And, the death nail to this "spa": the parking situation is ABYSMAL! The attendants take their sweet time collecting and delivering your car on Maple, which is a one-way street; one of the attendants ran off with my key, and I had to wait 10 minutes before he realized his mistake. The worst part: I called the spa to beg for help in getting ahold of the valet service since not one of the valet attendants was anywhere to be found, and I was told that Urban Oasis has no affiliation with the valet -- pretty ballsy for a spa that engages the valet for their services. Pros: clean facility; great massage therapist Cons: DREADFUL parking situation; surprisingly unsophisticated details more

DO NOT GO HERE 9/13/2007

BAD MASSAGE EXPERIENCE...IF YOU ARE A MAN, DO NOT GO TO THIS SPA...KEEP LOOKING AROUND. I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. IT IS ALL A FACADE. more

AWESOME WAY TO BE PAMPERED! 12/27/2006

Terrible Service 3/16/2006

I went here for a massage. The massage was okay, but the staff working the front desk was rude and not very helpful- both in person and on the phone. At least it was clean and had nice showers, but I would never go back again. Not worth the $. Pros: clean, nice showers, decent massage Cons: rude staff at desk more

Relax 8/27/2005

A first I was a little hesitant because I received a gift certificate for my birthday and I never really went to this type of place before. But I soon realized that it was a real treat to visit this upscale salon. A Licensed therapist will treat you with great care as they massage the kinks right away. They offer privite showers and a steam room as well. PROS: Great gift idea for a loved one. CONS: Pricey more

Amazing!!! 7/30/2005

My husband and I have been getting 90 min. massages once a month here for almost 3 years. We wouldn't even consider going elsewhere. It's so relaxing--the music, lighting, aroma--everything!! The therapists are great (very professional & personable). The rain-shower showers are to die for. My only gripe is that we are so relaxed, and in such bliss during our massage, 90 minutes pass way too quickly. Pros: Atmosphere, Very Relaxing, Very clean more

wonderfully relaxing 7/28/2005

From the moment you walk in, you start to relax. Urban Oasis is a terrific spa with wonderful massages. Gift certificates are great for birthdays, mothers day, etc. They have a wide variety of services, and a selection of showers for after - rainfall, pressure, etc. The staff is very helpful and can help you choose what type of service you are looking for. more

The Best Massage facility in the City!!! 3/14/2005

You know after a long day at the office and when you have all of this stress and stuff that just builds up inside of you, well this is the place that can get rid of it...wish I could come here more often...I feel great even three days after my visit Pros: Clean, Quiet, Polite Staff Cons: , Session too short more

WONDERFUL 12/24/2002

I love this place. I live in atlanta and when I go to Chicago this is a must do stop. Took my girlfriend during a girls weekend and she couldn't believe how wonderful she felt afterwards. THE BEST Pros: Tranquil, Great massages, Good location Cons: none, none, none more

Unbelievable 12/10/2002

I went in for a massage and salt glow treatment. The staff is very professional and you feel very comfortable. They are serious about the benefits of massage and I think it helps that they don't do facials and nails too. Definintely a classy move. The massage was unbelievable. It was so amazing. The salt glow was great too, left my skin soooo soft. The showers are amazing and I did not want to get out. I left there in such a state of euphoria. They also have gift certificates which is a great present to give someone. Pros: Quality of treatments, Warm environment, Professional more

Very welcome relaxation 11/21/2002

I love this spa! They offer a variety of treatments. Everything about the place is soothing, from the music, to the furniture, to the fountains, to the free juices and tea, to the receptionists and therapists. I would recommend this spa for anyone who needs a break from the craziness of the city. Pros: valet available, great showers, wonderful people more

Short Service 11/12/2002

Not all it is hyped up to be. My 1-hour massage was actually 40 minutes. In addition, the room was freezing and the staff was not very friendly. Pros: Good shopping area, Easy to get appt. Cons: Overcharged, Rude staff, Uncomfortable room more

serene 10/29/2002

Urban Oasis is just that - an Oasis in the middle of a bustling city. It's quiet, relaxing, rejuvenating - all of the above! If you're looking to get away and clear your mind, THIS is the place to go. Pros: Quiet Cons: Parking more

Professionals... 6/27/2002

I've had several massages here - all with different massage therapists, and they were all excellent. The place is super-clean and relaxing. All of the staff members were helpful and friendly. Make an appointment, as they tend to get pretty busy. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
You can hear--or rather, not hear--the difference as soon as you step inside: Cell phones are turned off, and tranquil music and fragrant aromas surround you as you remove your shoes. The most stressful moment is deciding between juice, tea or water before heading to a changing room for a kimono and slippers.

    The Services
Massage is taken seriously here. Choose from more than 10 variations, the most common being Swedish-Esalen massage, designed to relieve stress and soothe points of tension. Before the massage, your therapist asks about any specific problems, likes and dislikes. Afterward, you may be shown stretches or given a suggested regimen for ongoing stress reduction. Finish with a relaxing rain shower and sweet-smelling body oils and lotions. For a truly rejuvenating experience, try an aromatherapy wrap or salt-glow treatment.

    The Details
Waterfall shower. Massage, body treatments, wet treatments, Reiki.
