Urban Active - Total Rip Off 2/29/2012

Every single thing that lookingforloulou said happened to me as well. The fitness classes were cancelled, the spin classes ended, the equipment died and was never fixed for months at a time, both my husband and I were stuck in 2 year contracts when they went to $15.00 a month and told us we were out of luck. No one was helpful there and basically wouldn't offer you any counsel unless you paid them extra to be your personal trainer. The child care was dingy and dark, the hours inconvenient, and one time my child was horrified at the treatment of another by a worker there, and visibly upset for over an hour after we left. Horrible place. Run the other way. more

horrible horrible horrible place. 8/30/2010

I feel like we're getting taken for a ride by this place. My boyfriend and I joined a year and a half ago. At the time it was a great facility. Group Fitness, Spin classes, working cardio equipment. They originally offered us a $49.99 a month membership for two years. We negotiated him down (like a used car salesman) to the $29.99 a month two year contract rate and we were pretty satisfied. We weren't planning on moving anytime soon and were pretty happy with the gym and it's services. However, not 6 months later they stopped ALL group fitness and spin classes (in exchange for ""group personal trainer"" classes for an additional cost). One of the main reasons I joined the gym was for the group fitness classes. I sucked it up and dealt with it. The next month they started offering 14.99 NO CONTRACT deals. I brought it up with the front desk staff. They told me I needed to talk with the manager. I spoke with the manger, he said I needed to speak with corporate. I emailed corporate and never heard anything back. I kept bringing it up with management and was continuously told that they couldn't do anything about it as I had signed a contract and in that contract they had the right to discontinue services (such as group fitness) and offer a lower rate to new customers (14.99 no contract vs our 49.99/29.99 2 year contract (1.5 years left at this point) contract). Finally I got an answer from management that I could pay $99 to get transferred to the 14.99 no contract membership. At this point I opted out because 1. I was pissed and 2. I felt I could get it resolved in another way. That never happened. All of my calls/emails to corporate wen't unanswered. So fine. My fault. I signed the contract. 1 year later. The gym has been torn to pieces. More than half of the machines don't work in some capacity (TV (most common), off balance, 'out of order'), and the whole gym has been placed ""UNDER CONSTRUCTION"" Cardio Theater is in shambles. No idea of completion as noted by the employees. So now, it's damn near impossible to get a machine (""We don't get told those details""). Never mind the general issues that have existed there all along. Rude employees, unauthorized charges. Changed my auto draft CC # with them. Staff didn't put it in the system. Got charged late fees. Dealt with it w/ management. Told I wouldn't get charged the $20 late fee. Come two weeks later I got charged it out of nowhere. These guys are idiots. I also got charged twice out of nowhere. Got accused of lying a few times about it. It took me bringing in my bank statements to get it resolved. This company is an unorganized mess! I can't wait until my contract expires in January. Stay the hell away?from this mess. The price may be great, but you'll pay for it in the long term. more

Stay away from all Urban Active locations 8/3/2010

These people need to be put out of business. Stay far away. It is a scam to take your money and provide no service. more

Do yourself a favor...DO NOT GO HERE! 6/10/2010

Where to start... First, you are greeted at the counter by someone who is more interested in the conversation she/he is having with a bunch of their friends standing around the counter than checking you in and who seems rather annoyed at the fact that they have to pause for a second to swipe your badge. Remember, they like your money, not you. Second, when you walk past the counter into the workout area, you are assaulted in the face by the smell of hundreds of sweaty bodies, most of which smell as if they have never heard of, much less used, deodorant. I can only assume it is because the ventilation is so poor at this location, that body stink has nowhere to go and not only lingers, but gains strength as you proceed through the gym. In the media room at around 6pm, the stink is so rampant you can literally taste it. You may ask yourself, why don't they just fix the ventilation and enforce the hygiene policy that requires people to not only wipe down machines after each use (they do not) but also to not offend other members with their body funk? Again, they care about your money, not you. Lastly, if you can see past the rude staff, the over-crowded area full of sweating people, and the overbearing stink of said bodies, you get to work out on machines that are at least 10-15 years old, are falling apart, and are in desperate need of replacing. How do I know this you may ask. I was one of the founding members of that location when Gold's Gym first opened its doors years ago! Some of the equipment was old even then. Guess what...NOTHING HAS CHANGED! It's the same equipment, same placement, same problems it had back then! Why wouldn't they buy new (or at least updated) equipment? Oh, yeah, that costs MONEY! For the last time, it isn't about you! It's all about the money! Do yourself a favor and go ANYWHERE ELSE but here. Pros: Nothing Cons: Machines-old, Staff-unprofessional, Air-STINKS! more

BAD People Skills 10/8/2008

Do yourself a favor go join Bally's. This gyms staff is very unprofessional. I am very tired, as a consumer, of being treated like I am doing them a favor when spending my hard earned money in their establishment. Not a good experience, maybe they will learn that in todays economy when people are cutting out excess spending a workout center maybe at the top of the trimming list, and possibly going the little extra would keep people around & not send them running. more

Golds Gym in Antioch- poor service 12/31/2005

the hype the training staff give is not what they offer after you give them the bucks! They promise lots of things during the meeting to get you set up, but dont perform or perform poorly when its time for the first session. I felt I was paying to only be escorted to the machines rather than the trainer having input on how to use the machines, what exercises to do in a routine. The sessions are poorly planned! Dont join! Its a waste of money! Pros: Clean Cons: dishonest, trainers not prepared, no vision in workouts more
