Best

Worst

This has nothing to do with the shows here -- frankly, I have found them to be hit or miss. If you are willing to spend $5-$10 and sit through some comedy, you may find yourself ...

Bad show. Rude People. Pass! 10/14/2010

I was surprised that our experience was so bad after reading all the good reviews. My friend and I went on Harold night, and we felt like the show was full of inside jokes that only about 1/8 of the audience seemed to get. It was kind of like they were performing just for their friends. It was really unprofessional. The performers seemed to expect the laughs and even taunted the audience when they didn't get them. The theater itself was really gross. Something dripped on me from the ceiling and it was the grungiest most uncomfortable seat. The staff was rude to us too. Sorry to bust everyone's bubble, but UCB sucked. more

Great Fun! 3/16/2010

I've seen a bunch of shows here, late night comedy is especially fun. Always a good time, if you get there early and get in line! more

Great Stuff, David VOice Stein and Nick Fraley Rocked 1/22/2010

It started late but it made up by the comedy genius of David The VOice Stein and Nick Fraley. Will come again. Pros: Funny PEOPLE Cons: Started late more

The best!! 1/26/2009

This is a great place to watch hilarious shows, like the free Sunday night Assscat performances which often feature fun folks like Tina Fey or Amy Pohler. The other shows are also reasonably priced, but nothing is as fun as the free Sunday night shows. The theatre is small but intimate, and you can get cheap Pabst here. Definitely go here! more

lots of fun 7/12/2008

I had some friends in town and one of them had heard of this place so we went. I had no idea what it was, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a hilarious improv comic group. They were funny and clever. I laughed from beginning to end. It was pretty cheap to get in and well worth the value. more

best comedy joint anywhere :> 3/3/2008

i discovered the ucb one day through i believe the village voice over a year ago. Pros: hilarious, great people, good location Cons: none, seriously. more

Improv At It's Best 1/23/2008

UCBT is the place to go for quality comedy shows improv or otherwise. Whether you're there to check out the stars of Comedy Central do their thing at ASSSSCAT or just to watch as the kids break out during student night, you're always in store for a hilaruous time. There's none of uptightness or rigidity found at some of the more expensice comedy clubs in the city, just a cool and casual attitude. WIth average ticket prices ranging from $5-8 and $2 PBRs, price is never a problem. If that's not cheap enough for you, both ASSSSCAT and student night shows are offered free of cover. So get out of of the house and check out a show! Pros: Hilarious Shows, Cheap Tix more

Upright Citizens Brigade Theater 8/9/2005

Unless an insider has clued you in that Robin Williams or Chris Rock will be doing a surprise show to try out some new material in some club The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater is the best comedy deal in town. They do everything from improv to sketch comedy and some of the performers you see today will end up on SNL or some Fox sitcom in the next few years. It's cheap $5 - $10 usually, no drink minimun or any other foolishness. A good cheap first date. PROS: Cheap and Good CONS: Sometimes you can wait on lines. Avoid weekends more

my new favorite place 8/7/2005

Off Broadway Theater Fun 8/3/2005

Upright Citizen's is an Improv theater show. Most of the shows are very funny and the show is always a little different every night. It's also very cheap. Around $5-$10 a show depending which show you go to. It's a fun and cheap show to go to if you're on a budget or want to take a date. If you want tickets you better call ahead than wait on line. more

Fun place for a cheap night! 7/22/2005

We have gone here quite a few times and always had a good time. The improv shows on Sundays are great, as are the other comedy shows during the week. The best part is that all of them are cheap (under $10). They also serve alcohol and soda. Also, they do take reservations, but it is open seating once inside. more

essential viewing for comedy fans 5/16/2005

I was front row for a show in this tiny theater that had half the current cast of SNL doing hilarious improv based on true stories that were told by some guy, I forget who. It was Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Seth Meyers, and was Tina Fey there? Maybe. It was much better than anything Ive seen on SNL lately. Another time it was Horatio Sands and a few comedy-writer types providing improvised live director commentary track for and basically going MST on the Keanu Reeves clunker Point Break. Not all of what they do there is going to be great, but there are some talented folks perfoming there, and theyre thinkin, and trying out different stuff. And its affordable more

Great cheap laughs 11/28/2004

You can show up on any night and see something funny for $5-10. Not every joke or sketch hits the mark, but you will laugh more than you expect to! Pros: Funny, Cheap more

Truly Hilarious 2/11/2004

You know how a small, somewhat unknown comedy club can be hit or miss? This one is definitely a hit. My girlfriend and I have been twice and both times we laughed....a lot. Truly funny, smart and inventive comedy. Not to mention it only cost us $5 to get in the door mid-week. Grab yourself a couple of $2 PBRs and you got a cheap date! Definitely check this place out. Pros: Value, Intelligence, The Funny more

Hilarious 9/8/2003

I am a big fan of comedy clubs, and the improv show I saw here the other night was without a doubt one of the funniest things I have ever seen!(Dont remember the name but it was 2 guys and a girl) They were all good, but in particular the woman should be immediately picked up by Saturday night live, as she could dramatically improve that show. Book your tickets in advance and get there early! (BYOB until they get their liquor license) Pros: Hilarious, Inexpensive more
