Editorial review from Citysearch 5/4/2013

People looking for an apartment, do not live here. I thought it would be perfect, being so close to campus; however, it's not a safe place to live. The doors do not have any sort of real lock, like a dead bolt. Someone could easily break in with a credit card. All my neighbors do is blare rap music and smoke pot, so much so that the smoke comes through my vents. The ""security guards"" do not do their job. I heard one guard telling two young men that if he saw someone breaking into one of our vehicles, he wouldn't do anything about it. Quote ""This is a bad area. I'm not risking my life by going outside at night."" Ummm? Isn't that the job of a security guard? To protect the grounds? The heating is terrible in the winter too. The pictures make the place look nice, but when I moved in my apartment was filthy. There was so much dust on my window blinds that the blinds literally looked gray rather than white. The elevators break down constantly and alarms go off on a daily basis. One time, the alarms started going off on a Saturday morning and it wasn't fixed until Monday. The main internet connection is terrible. I have a router, but it still messes with my connection. At least two times a week I have internet access problems. I cannot wait until my lease is up, so I can move to a safer apartment building. If you're a student, business person, or someone who relies on a quiet, peaceful apartment building, look elsewhere. University studios is not the place for you. more

Do NOT do business with THIS WOMAN!!! 3/17/2012

I've been waiting for this revenge for years. Maybe I won't be getting my money back, but I'll at least get the last word in.\r \r I was a student at Case Western for 3 & 1/2 years. I lived in one of Sandra Jenkins' studio apartments for the last 1 & 1/2, at 1716 E. 115th St., Apartment #29, all the way on the fourth floor, with no elevator.\r \r During my time there, the washer/dryer ate my favorite clothes, leaving giant holes and tears and black skid marks all over them. If it was the cold of winter, and I asked Sandra Jenkins (the manager) to turn the heat on, she just told me to put a few layers on and the heat would be on later.\r \r After having to leave mid-year, never finding anyone to take over the lease, my uncle/godfather had to pay 6 months rent for an empty apartment. That b**** never once lifted a finger to help us, and due to all of the stress, not only are we out over $3500, but my uncle had a nervous breakdown and became schizophrenic. And that's not the end of it! To more

Just say NO 10/17/2011

I thought this was going to truly be the best place to live based on the pictures posted. This place is tighter than a hotel room as someone called it. I've lived in real studio apartments and these aren't it. I had room to hang clothes and put my shoes. I don't care how much HGTVing you do you can't do it. I've turned my sitting area into a closet area. I still haven't received ""closet doors"", someone leaked water from their tub down into my apartment because from the ""janitors"" mouth it wasn't caulked. These apartments have been here long enough for these small things to be fixed. People commenting, do you feel safe? The apartment doors don't have deadbolts and even if they did, you could kick one of these down without a lot of force. Cheap, shoddy made to look upscale crap! And if I thought there was a reason (CleveLandCutie88) to go out of my way to post a positive review, believe me I would have. University Studios should have given me a reason to!! more

Call Me a Realist... 6/24/2011

... but coming from someone who's lived in apartments most of their life, these people posting these reviews sound as if they clearly have never done so before. I am also a manager at an upscale business, and from personal experience, people these days seldom go out of their way to provide positive feedback. If you are looking for an apartment and using these reviews, pay attention to how recently they've all been added! This complex is very new, and likewise so are the reviews. \r \r Again, as a realist, I'm definitely not saying University Studios is perfect. Since it is so new, they're still working out some kinks- like the fire alarms that went off a few times throughout the night. However, there are a lot of great aspects of it too! The price is what first caught my attention. Having all utilities- even cable/internet- is absolutely unheard of! Saving the pain of transferring utilities is appealing enough in itself. \r \r I love working out, and downtown, there aren't a lot of places that you can visit any time of day. With my demanding schedule, I would rarely have time to make it to the gym I was paying a monthly fee for. At University, I have all the basic equipment I need, and it's available 24/7! \r \r Yes, the studios are small. I have an extensive wardrobe, including over 50 pairs of shoes, and maximizing my space can be quite tough. Let's just say I've been watching a lot of HGTV to find creative solutions. What they lack in space they make up for in quality. Having a completely remodeled apartment is very nice! \r \r I'll be happy to provide very realistic feedback for anyone who thinks that I'm management posting this review ;-) more

I Recommend It 5/24/2011

This is my third apartment I have lived in... and I would say this is the best so far. Its not perfect but its an apartment. Im wondering if any of the other poster have ever lived in an apartment. It is a small size studio- but its perfect for one person. Im a CSU student and this works perfect for me! I just live there during the week and travel home on weekends/holiday/and summer. I just have to pay my rent and dont worry about any other bills. For the price I dont think you can beat it. My only complaint is some odor in the hallways.. but I guess what else do you expect with a bunch of college kids?! more

Do NOT live here 4/28/2011

If i could have given this place negative stars I would have. I am a student in Cleveland and ended up living here because of the ""pretty pictures"" of the outside and the wide angle shots of the inside... This place is NOT a studio apartment... it is in fact smaller. The building used to be a hotel called the Versaille Motor Inn and Before that it was the Picadilly Inn, and you can really tell once you set foot inside one of the rooms. It comes with a ""mini-fridege"", a microwave, and a tiny bathroom... hmmmm everything that you would find in a hotel. The big problem for me wasn't the cheaply put together rooms, or the door with no bolt locks or peep holes, or the water damage from the unfinished roof, or the unfinished everything else. The real problem for me was the price that i got suckered into paying. $600 for everything, they said. Sounds like a good deal until you realize ""everything"" is a minifridge, microwave and cable, oh and an overfull parking lot which they have no solution for. If you choose to stay here you will pay almost $600 a month for a one bed hotel room. If you dont have many clothes or furniture or life, this is the perfect place for you! more

The Worst Place to Live in Cleveland! 1/10/2011

Hands Down the WORST Place to Live in Cleveland. The management staff only cares about collecting your rent money. They refuse to handle any issues with your individual apartment or the building. Multiple elevators have been broken for over 3 weeks causing everyone to use only 1 elevator and hance it takes FOREVER. Multiple issues with heat...ie there were DAYS where there wasn't any. Management doesn""t seem to have these high or their priority nor do they communicate estimated completion dates for these projects. There is severe water damage on the ground level which gives you a nauseous feeling. Security guards are also unprofessional...they don""t actually ""guard"" anything. They spend all evening watching movies, having loud personal phone conversations, and relaxing. Your actual apartment isn't any better. Everything is sloppily thrown together....ie molding, paint jobs, hinges, cabinets, etc & management will claim that you'll receive closet doors but you never will. Can't believe I'm stuck at this dump for a year!\r \r P.s. Metromanic's review below sounds like management posing as a reviewer. Take it from a current resident who's giving you the real deal...you DON'T want to live here! more

Small, comfy and just right 11/18/2010

University studios is definitely a newly renovated establishment. The studios are cozy. I found the staff really freindly and very accomodating to my stay-needs.I only had one service request which was completed by the next day. All in all, the neighbors were quiet - the parking was free. I loved working out at the gym which I was surprised to find- never crowded. The same goes for the game room. I wish I had stayed to see the coffee shop construction completed...All in all - I had a very pleasant stay here and definitely would recommend checking it out if you do not mind a small cozy apt. I infact already have a couple of people I recommended the place to and am happy to say - they are yet to be dissappointed.\r Previous resident of 221 - stayed here till I moved away to another state! more

HORRIBLE Place- DO NOT rent here 9/6/2010

University Studios looks great at first glance, but don't be fooled. As you take a closer look, the building sucks. First, lets start with MANAGEMENT... This property is ran by two young women who have NO IDEA how to manage a property. They are very sweet to your face, until you sign the contract and move in. If you have any issues, these two will make SURE they DON'T get the issue resolved. Second, the SECURITY... these officers are the most rudest people I have ever came across. They treat you like crap, and turn off the elevators so they don't have to watch them, essentially making their job easy and uncouvient for the residents staying. Third, the STUDIO... once again DON'T be fooled at first glance. The management never has your apartment ready on move-in day, CRAZY HUH? Then they will NOT prorate your apartment for the week extra they need to get the place ready. And good luck with getting anything fixed, even though they state they provide maintenance 24hrs a day during consaltaion. With everything being negative about this place, I recommend that you do NOT rent from this property or MANAGEMENT COMPANY. They have over 30 apartment complex within the Cleveland area. They do NOT put the accent on satisfying residents. This is a HORRIBLE place. more

Look beyond the exterior 7/28/2010

The exterior fixes make things look nice on first appearance but after moving in you start to notice the problems with the building and the management. Only stayed there about 6 weeks but during that time the three elevators did not work consistently (only one worked and even it was sporadic). Construction not complete. My apartment had wires for smoke detector but no detector installed. Tiling not finished in bathroom or closet. Air conditioner not installed, leasing agent pointed to the window and said it had Cleveland AC. Hot water was inconsistent. Window would not seal correctly. Promised wifi not present and coffee shop not finished. I had a problem with the internet access when first moving in and called management, they never returned called. I happened to find a maintenance guy in building the next day that helped but management did nothing to resolve the issue. Security people at front desk either talked on phone or watched TV at night, constantly cursing while talking or watching shows with foul language in it. Security deposit not refunded at end of lease even after cleaning the apartment thoroughly and only living in it for 34 days total. It may be a decent apartment in a few years but there is a lot of work to be done and better staff to make it truly livable for any length of time. Pros: Exercise room Cons: Everything else more

Brand new 11/3/2009

I moved in about seven weeks ago and after living in Viking for a year - what a welcome change!!! New everything - bath rooms, Kitchen cabinets and counter tops, even windows!!\r \r The only negative is the construction is still ongoing but it's not on my floor so I never hear anything. I like the manager and the staff - I ask him about anything and he responds. I had an issue with the water pressure in the bathroom and I told them and it was fixed the next day!\r \r Nice - I would recommend it to a friend - actually I have. Pros: Brand new everything Cons: Construction more
