I found out recently that I was the beneficiary on a death claim. My aunt died in February 2008 and even though it was assumed that she had changed the beneficiaries on her policy, she had not. Once the discovery was made, I filed a claim with the proper office and received a check. I also received a phone call from a supervisor at Unitrin office, who claims that someone else using my name had also filed a claim and had received a check. I disputed the other person's claim and insisted that I was the real person listed as primary benefiary. It was later discovered, by myself, that the contingent beneficiary on the policy's wife has stolen my identify to get the money. I have been in constant contact with Career Agency Insurance Services trying to prove that I am the person listed, but it has been one big run-around since. They are now telling me that I have to wait to hear from their legal department. Seems to me, if I have multiple documents which prove my identity, what is the hold up? I even got a tape recorded message from the other person, saying that if her husband (my cousin) does not receive the money, no one will. She even admits that she is committing a crime.
Pros: None that I have seen so far
Cons: Rudenes of some agency employees
